It is not dressed up as a grand resort. That is rather the point. You get somewhere to sleep well, eat, cool off and organise the next day without turning every small task into an expedition.

Couples can choose a double room with a balcony, while groups have quadruple rooms with two extra-large double beds. The layout suits divers travelling together, particularly when the priority is a straightforward base on Xiaoliuqiu rather than a formal hotel routine.

For another stretch of coast, Zhongao Beach is about 1.7 miles away on foot. Hiking trails surround the property, giving you somewhere to wander when your legs want movement but not another serious adventure. Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area is about 10 miles away.

Kaohsiung International Airport is about 15 miles away. The island location means the final approach needs planning rather than hopeful wandering, but once you are settled, beaches, cafés and the surrounding trails are the useful landmarks.

The room choice matters here because the categories are compact, and your diving bag will not become magically smaller because it has travelled to an island. For two people, the balcony rooms give you outdoor space as well as the bed; choose the twin arrangement if separate beds make more sense, or a king room if you prefer one large sleeping surface.

Travelling as a group, the quadruple rooms place two extra-large double beds in the room, with the sea-view option adding the prospect of looking out rather than simply looking at your luggage. The standard quadruple room is the more direct choice when sleeping four matters more than the outlook. For a simpler stay, the budget double or twin room keeps things to two single beds.

Air conditioning is available for the return from hot, salty water, and every room has a balcony or terrace. Private bathrooms are included, too. The balcony or terrace gives you somewhere to sit with a cold drink and let the day leave your shoulders, though the smaller room categories call for sensible packing rather than bringing the entire contents of a dive locker.

A modern on-site restaurant takes care of the main practical question: where to eat when you have surfaced hungry and do not fancy setting off again. The dining room serves a range of dishes in a contemporary setting, giving you a proper meal without requiring another journey across the island.

Breakfast is included, and it is described as varied and good quality. That makes the morning simpler: coffee and food first, then the day's plans. There is no separate bar described, so this is principally a restaurant-and-breakfast arrangement rather than a place built around evening drinks.

For a change of scene, Ching Shin is about half a mile away, while Chain and Presotea are about 1.3 miles away. They are useful café options when you want something lighter or simply need to postpone the next decision with tea.

The outdoor pool is the obvious recovery tool: a few lengths, a sun lounger and no timetable beyond the one you set yourself. The sun terrace has outdoor furniture, umbrellas and loungers, so you can dry off in the open air or retreat into the shade when the island sun has made its point.

There is also a shared lounge, a games room and an indoor play area. Families get a children's playground and kids' club, while the pool and terrace work just as well for adults who have no interest in organised entertainment. Sometimes the correct post-dive activity is sitting down and staying there.

Bicycle rental is available on site. Snorkelling and canoeing can be arranged off site, adding a non-diving option for a day when you want to be on the water without committing to another descent. Nearby hiking trails provide the land-based alternative.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 22:30, and check-out from 05:00 to 11:00. The early check-out window is useful for an early departure, although the evening arrival limit is worth keeping in mind when planning the journey to Xiaoliuqiu.

Parking is free in a nearby public location and needs to be reserved. A tour desk, car hire and luggage storage are available, which helps when your travel plans involve more than simply arriving, sleeping and leaving.
