Marina Bay Sands

Marina Bay Sands hotel is built for a city break with a great deal going on downstairs and very little need to organise once you arrive. You can move from the room to the rooftop swimming pool, restaurants, shops, observation deck and casino without turning the evening into a transport exercise. For a diver, that makes it a practical base when the hotel is part of a wider Singapore trip rather than the destination for a quiet beach week.

The scale is substantial, but the useful part is simple: you can eat, have a drink, swim, arrange a tour, store luggage or order room service without leaving the building. Air conditioning, daily housekeeping, a minibar and tea- and coffee-making facilities give you the basics needed when the Singapore heat has taken its share of the day.

You also have a choice of room-led stays, family arrangements and suites with city, sea or Gardens by the Bay views. The place suits you if you want a recognised landmark, plenty of dining under one roof and the option to retreat upstairs when the city has had enough of your attention.

You are in central Singapore, directly beside the Marina Bay waterfront and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. The Sands SkyPark Observation Deck is on site, while Gardens by the Bay is about 1 mile away on foot and Cloud Forest about 0.7 miles. ArtScience Museum is roughly 950 feet away, and the Helix Bridge is about 1,300 feet from the hotel.

Bayfront MRT Station is around 600 feet away, giving you a straightforward way to move through the city without relying on taxis. Gardens by the Bay MRT Station is about 0.9 miles away, while Promenade MRT Station is roughly 0.8 miles on foot.

This is a waterfront city location, not a hotel on a swimming beach. East Coast Beach is about 2.5 miles away, and Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach and Tanjong Beach are each roughly 3.6 to 3.8 miles away. Changi Airport is about 10 miles by road, with a drive listed at around 13 minutes.

The standard Premier rooms give you 45 square metres to work with and sleep up to three people. Choose between a super-king bed or two large beds according to whether you are travelling as a couple, sharing with a companion or fitting a third person into the arrangement. City views and Gardens by the Bay views let you choose what you would rather see when you draw the curtains.

If you value room to spread out rather than simply somewhere to sleep, the Premier Studio offers 70 square metres. The suites begin at 75 square metres and go much further, with two-bedroom options reaching 131 square metres for groups of up to six. The Sands Family Suite adds a bunk bed alongside a super-king bed, making the layout more useful for a family than trying to negotiate three adults around one sleeping arrangement.

At the upper end, the Paiza and signature suites provide more generous living space, with sea or city views and, in several categories, a separate bathroom. The largest listed accommodation reaches 360 square metres and sleeps up to six. You can therefore choose this hotel for a straightforward Premier room or make the room itself part of the Singapore stay.

Every room has air conditioning, a private bathroom, bath or shower, slippers, a bathrobe and a hairdryer. A minibar, coffee machine, electric kettle and wired internet in the rooms cover the small practicalities. The flat-screen television is there if your evening ends with an easy hour indoors rather than another outing.

Breakfast is served as a buffet, and the choice across the property is unusually broad. RISE Restaurant focuses on Asian and Southeast Asian dishes, including laksa, chicken rice, chilli crab and pork rib prawn noodles. Toast Box is the more direct Singaporean option for breakfast and lunch, with kaya toast and mee rebus when you want something local without turning breakfast into a formal occasion.

You can keep things British at Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay, where brunch, lunch and dinner bring together dishes such as Eggs Benedict, Beef Wellington, fish and chips and Sunday roast. Maison Boulud covers French cooking beside the waterfront, while Spago Dining Room places dinner on the rooftop with Asian-influenced dishes and views across Marina Bay. The menus range from a quick sandwich or pastry at Origin + Bloom to seafood at JUMBO Signatures and Chinese cooking at Jin Ting Wan, Mott 32, BLOSSOM and Imperial Treasure.

There is a bar, a coffee house, a snack bar and a minibar, so you can keep the evening simple when a full restaurant feels like overkill. For something more deliberate, Wakuda, KOMA, Waku Ghin, CUT and Punjab Grill add Japanese, Chinese, steakhouse and Indian choices. You will not need to leave the complex merely because one person wants noodles and another wants a proper steak.

The rooftop swimming pool is the obvious place to reset your body while Singapore spreads out below. You also have pool and beach towels, sun loungers, a hot tub and a children's pool. Access to the SkyPark Infinity Pool is reserved for hotel guests, with your hotel key card used for entry.

If you still have energy to spend, the fitness centre offers a more purposeful option, with yoga classes and a personal trainer also available. That gives you a way to stretch out or keep moving without making the day another sightseeing march. The casino is on site, and there is a nightclub with DJ entertainment for an evening that refuses to end quietly.

For a change of scene, cycling is available off site and a golf course lies within 3 miles. Gardens by the Bay, Cloud Forest, ArtScience Museum and the Singapore Flyer are close enough to turn a non-diving day into a manageable circuit rather than a long expedition. You can also use the tour desk to arrange outings, then come back to the pool before dinner.

Check-in starts from 15:00 and check-out runs until 11:00. The minimum age for check-in is 18, while children of any age are welcome; children aged 13 and over are charged as adults. A cot can be requested for children aged up to two years, while extra beds are not available.
