Torpedo Rays Scuba Adventures

Located in Dartmouth, Torpedo Rays Scuba Adventures has been a cornerstone of the Nova Scotian diving community since 1997. As the largest and longest-running dive shop on the East Coast, the centre is perfectly positioned to facilitate both local shore dives and offshore adventures.

The centre operates as a PADI 5 Star IDC facility, meaning they are equipped to train divers from their very first breath underwater right up to the professional instructor level. Whether you are looking to master dry suit diving in cold Atlantic waters or exploring deep wrecks, the infrastructure is built to support serious progression.

The team consists of 15 qualified instructors, ensuring a high level of expertise across a vast range of disciplines. They maintain a strict ratio of one guide for every four divers, providing the close supervision necessary for both technical training and guided local excursions.

Beyond recreational courses, the staff is trained to support the technical and freediving communities. They offer specialised instruction in areas such as Sidemount, Self Reliant Diver, and various freediving levels, catering to divers who want to push their boundaries in a controlled, professional environment.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the entire PADI spectrum. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Diver course, while experienced divers can progress through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster.

Technical and speciality training is a core strength here. You can qualify in Dry Suit Diver, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Sidemount Diver, or pursue more advanced paths like the PADI Self Reliant Diver course. The centre is also a training hub for professionals, offering IDC Staff Instructor and Course Director pathways.

The centre organises wreck charters for those looking to explore the sunken history of the Atlantic coast. These trips are specifically designed for divers seeking the unique challenges and rewards of wreck penetration and deep wreck exploration.

The shore-based facilities are well-equipped for the demands of Atlantic diving. They offer a full range of rental kit, including regulators, BCDs, and exposure protection. For those requiring specialised gear, drysuits, hoods, gloves, and boots are available for hire.

For technical diving, the centre provides Nitrox and Trimix gas blending services. They also stock a variety of cylinders, including aluminium and steel options. Equipment servicing is available on-site, with a standard seven-day turnaround for repairs.

Diving in this region requires preparation for cold water environments, with temperatures ranging from -2°C to 18°C. The availability of drysuit training and rental kit is essential for navigating these seasonal shifts.
