Islands Dive

Islands Dive is situated on Green Island (Lüdao), Taiwan, a destination defined by the warm waters of the Kuroshio Current. Established in 2019 by three local ocean enthusiasts, the centre has quickly become a hub for divers seeking the island's unique underwater topography and biological richness.

The location is easily accessible via ferry from the port of Taitung, or by flying into Taitung airport and taking a taxi to Fugang port. The centre provides a base for both short-term exploration and extended stays, offering a variety of accommodation styles from standard twin rooms to family rooms and mixed dormitories.

The team at Islands Dive consists of professional instructors who provide training and guidance in English and Japanese. This multilingual approach ensures that international divers can follow technical instruction and safety briefings with precision.

As an SSI affiliated centre, they offer a structured curriculum for all levels of experience. The focus remains on professional instruction and maintaining high standards for equipment and safety protocols throughout all scheduled dive slots.

The centre offers a comprehensive SSI training programme. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver course, while more experienced divers can progress to the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Specialty courses are widely available to refine specific skills, including Nitrox, Deep Diver, Navigation, and Perfect Buoyancy. They also offer specific training for Night & Limited Visibility and Boat Diving, as well as Refresher courses for those returning to the water after a hiatus.

For those not travelling with their own kit, the centre provides a full range of rental equipment. This includes BCDs, regulators, masks, fins, wetsuits, and boots, as well as torches and dive computers for night or technical dives.

On-site facilities include a comfortable rest area and hot showers to rinse off after a day in the sea. Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time or manage nitrogen loading during multi-dive days.

The reefs around Green Island are defined by their immense coral diversity. You will find a rich landscape of corals that provide habitat for a wide range of marine life, supported by the warm waters brought in by the local currents.

For macro photographers and enthusiasts, the area is particularly rewarding. Nudibranchs are a regular feature of the local reefs, offering vibrant colours and intricate details for those looking closely at the substrate.

During the peak season from April to September, the marine life is highly active across the various reef sites, making it the optimal time to observe the local biodiversity.

The diving environment is heavily influenced by the Kuroshio Current, which brings warm water and high nutrient levels to the island. While this supports a rich ecosystem, the tidal forces can be strong, which may affect entry and exit at certain sites.

The best period for diving is between April and September. During the months of August to October, typhoons can occasionally impact ferry services, and from November to March, strong north-east winds can lead to intermittent boat diving.
