InterContinental Muscat is an urban beachfront hotel set across 20 acres of gardens in Muscat’s residential and diplomatic quarter. You get direct access to a public beach, a broad choice of places to eat and enough on-site space to make staying in feel practical rather than restrictive.

The setting suits divers who want a comfortable city base rather than a small, purpose-built dive lodge. You can return from the coast, cool down in air conditioning, order room service or head straight for the beach. Families are welcome too, with family rooms, a children’s pool, outdoor play equipment and a playground.

There is a polished hotel feel here, but the useful part is simple: you have gardens, pools, restaurants, a fitness centre and the sea all in one address. No heroic logistics required.

You are in Muscat, Oman, directly on the public beachfront at Qurum. Qurum Beach is roughly 0.3 miles away by road, while Marjan Beach is about 3.2 miles away. The hotel sits in the city rather than in an isolated coastal outpost, with cafés and restaurants a short walk away.

Qurum Natural Park is about 2 miles away, and the Natural History Museum is roughly 3 miles from the hotel by road. Muscat’s older sights are further along the coast: Muscat Gate Museum, Fort Al-Mirani, Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace and the National Museum of Oman are all within roughly 7 to 10 miles.

Muscat International Airport is about 13 miles away, usually around a 15-minute drive. You have free private parking on site, valet parking and car hire, which is useful if your plans extend beyond the hotel and the nearest stretch of beach.

The standard rooms are designed for three guests and come with air conditioning, soundproofing, a seating area, desk, private bathroom and an extra-long bed. That gives you somewhere to sit, somewhere to put the day’s paperwork, and a better chance of sleeping properly after heat, salt and early starts. Tea and coffee-making facilities are included, along with a minibar and free Wi-Fi.

For two people, the balcony rooms make the more obvious choice if you want outdoor space without stepping up to a suite. Sea-view versions are available, including top-floor rooms, while mountain-view and city-view options change the outlook rather than the basic room footprint. If you prefer separate beds, the twin and two-bed rooms are the sensible route; if you are travelling as a couple, the super-king rooms keep things straightforward.

The Junior King Suites add room to spread out, and the larger club suites go further again for anyone who dislikes living out of a dive bag. A Presidential Suite is also available, but that is less a question of diving practicality and more a question of how much room you want between yourself and the minibar. Daily housekeeping, bathrobes, slippers, towels, a hairdryer and a private bathroom are part of the useful, unglamorous detail.

You have seven restaurants on site, plus a bar, a coffee house and room service. That matters when the appetite arrives before the motivation to leave the property. Breakfast covers continental and Asian choices in buffet form, and breakfast can also be served in your room.

Trader Vic’s is the named standout, serving Hawaiian, Tahitian and Polynesian dishes in tropical surroundings. It gives the hotel’s dining offer a clear personality rather than leaving you with seven versions of the same international menu. Special-diet menus are available on request, and the hotel also offers fruit, wine and champagne.

A minibar and tea and coffee facilities in the room handle the quieter moments. If you would rather eat outside the hotel, Annab Lebanese Restaurant, Char and Ba Ban are all within a few minutes on foot, with cafés including Tr.Eat Cafe, Pastels Oman and Costa Coffee nearby.

The hotel gives you several ways to make a non-diving day useful without turning it into an organised expedition. There are outdoor pools, a children’s pool, sun loungers, pool and beach towels, gardens and direct access to the public beach. You can also use the two floodlit tennis courts, with tennis equipment available on site.

For muscles that have had enough of carrying kit, the wellness facilities include a steam room, sauna, fitness centre, fitness classes and yoga classes. The spa offers massages and a range of health and beauty treatments, including facials, manicures, pedicures and hair treatments. The steam room is the particularly sensible stop when the day has involved more sun than enthusiasm.

There is also table tennis, billiards and darts for low-commitment entertainment, while the hotel runs live music or performances, sports broadcasts, happy hour and a nightclub or DJ programme. Some activities carry an additional charge. Golf is available at a course within 3 miles, and children have a playground, outdoor play equipment, board games and puzzles.

Check-in runs from 3 pm until midnight, and check-out is by noon. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the hotel asks you to share your expected arrival time. Early arrivals can leave luggage with the hotel, and luggage storage is available; private and express check-in and check-out are also offered.
