Adventure Cook Islands

Located in Aroa, Adventure Cook Islands operates as a versatile dive resort serving the Rarotonga community. The centre is built around a flexible approach to diving, using a trailer-mounted boat to access different sides of the island depending on the swell and wind conditions.

Whether you are looking to explore the shallow reef flats or descend along the island's outer walls, the centre manages departures from Avatiu, Rutaki, and Avana. This ability to move the boat ensures that you can find sheltered water even when conditions change.

The centre is affiliated with PADI, SSI, SDI, and TDI, allowing them to cater to a wide range of certification requirements. The team consists of highly experienced divemasters and instructors who are locals with extensive knowledge of the Cook Islands' waters.

To maintain a personalised feel, the centre strictly limits group sizes to a maximum of five divers per guide. This ratio ensures that instruction remains focused and that buddy pairs can manage their dives effectively. The staff are multilingual, capable of guiding divers in English, French, German, Italian, and Dutch.

The training programme is extensive, covering the full spectrum of recreational and technical diving. For those starting their journey, they offer PADI and SSI courses including Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver.

Technical divers will find a robust curriculum through TDI and PADI Tec Rec, including courses such as TDI Advanced Nitrox, TDI Extended Range, TDI Decompression Procedures, and TDI Rebreather Diver. They also offer specialised training like TDI Helitrox Decompression and SSI XR courses.

The primary vessel is a 5.5m Stabi-Craft aluminium pontoon boat, powered by twin 50 HP Yamaha motors. This setup provides the reliability and manoeuvrability needed to navigate the various reef passages around the island.

The boat is equipped for various dive profiles, including night dives, and carries essential safety kit such as oxygen, a first aid kit, life jackets, flares, a radio, and a mobile phone. Nitrox and Trimix are available for those requiring specialised gas blends during their excursions.

The centre provides full equipment hire for divers who prefer not to travel with their own kit. This includes everything required for a complete dive setup, from regulators to wetsuits.

On-site, the facility is equipped to support technical diving with Nitrox and full CCR support. For those looking to explore the island beyond the water, the centre also offers rentals for scooters, bicycles, kayaks, and surf equipment.

The reefs are home to a diverse array of pelagic and reef species. You can expect to encounter reef sharks, eagle rays, and large tuna, alongside Napoleon wrasse and giant trevally. Great barracuda and various species of moray eels are also frequently seen patrolling the structures.

In the smaller spaces of the reef, look for lionfish, scorpionfish, and stonefish. The colourful tropical reef fish provide constant movement against the backdrop of the coral.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, including various flatfish and diverse reef inhabitants. During specific times of the year, you may also encounter hammerhead sharks or humpback whales.

The diving environment in Rarotonga is generally calm, as most sites are characterised by little to no current. The island's geography provides a natural advantage; because the centre uses a trailer-mounted boat, they can almost always find a sheltered side of the island to dive if the swell increases.

Rain and surface chop rarely impact the quality of the dives. The best period for visiting is during the winter months, when visibility is at its most spectacular.
