You are choosing a sizeable beachfront resort rather than a small dive lodge: 178 rooms, a tropical garden, a pool with its own bar and the Indian Ocean directly outside. Leopard Beach Resort & Spa suits you if you want diving to sit alongside proper downtime, a choice of places to eat and enough space for a couple, a family or a group sharing a villa.

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside French, German, Italian and Russian. That matters when you are discussing dinner, transfers or the small practical questions that appear after a day in salt water. The resort was renovated in 2023, and the overall setup leans towards comfort, organised activities and easy evenings rather than bare-bones simplicity.

The resort sits directly on Diani Beach in Diani Beach, Kenya, with white sand, sun loungers, parasols and a beach bar at the water's edge. You can move from your room to the coast without planning a transfer or negotiating local traffic. That is the useful sort of beachfront, especially when your legs have already done enough work underwater.

Ukunda Airport is 1.6 miles away by road, while Moi International Airport is 26 miles away, with the latter taking about 41 minutes by car. The resort is also within reach of Diani's restaurants and bars: Coco McHana, Pasta N Pizza Tornati and Chui Grill are about 200 metres away, while Pango Cave Bar and Night Spot is about 450 metres away.

For a day away from the shoreline, Colobus Conservation is about 4.7 miles away and Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest about 8 miles away. Shimba Hills National Reserve and Wasini Island are also offered as excursions, giving you something more substantial than another circuit of the pool.

The rooms are bright and air-conditioned, with a private bathroom, satellite television, a safe, tea- and coffee-making facilities, a minibar and a refrigerator. That combination is properly useful: cool down, make a drink, keep water cold and put your feet up without having to leave the room. Daily housekeeping and room service are available, and the beds are extra long, over two metres.

For two, a sea-view cottage or the sea-view suite is the natural choice if the outlook matters more than having a private pool. The Superior Balcony Room and Deluxe Terrace Room give you outdoor space without moving into villa territory. If you are travelling with family or friends, the two- and three-bedroom villas provide the room to spread out, with private pools and several bathrooms in the larger options.

Garden views are standard across the accommodation, with some rooms also looking towards the sea. That distinction is worth keeping in mind when you choose: the resort is beside the ocean, but not every room trades a garden outlook for blue water. Non-smoking rooms are available, and WiFi reaches the rooms and public areas.

The main dining rhythm is half-board, with breakfast served as a buffet. Le Restaurant covers breakfast, lunch and dinner in an air-conditioned interior, with international cooking and a relaxed dress code. Breakfast begins at 07:00, which gives you a workable start if your dive plans are not built around sleeping through the morning.

The Terrace changes the setting rather than simply adding another room: it serves seafood on a terrace overlooking the ocean, at lunch and dinner. Vegetarian and vegan choices are available. For dinner at Horizon restaurant, Chui Grill and Lemongrass Restaurant, smart casual dress applies; gentlemen need long trousers and closed shoes, with no sandals, flip-flops or caps. Pack accordingly unless you want dinner to become an equipment problem of a different kind.

There are two named bars. The Pool Bar handles cocktails and refreshing drinks beside the main pool, while the Beach Bar puts the same basic ambition closer to the sand. Room service runs around the clock, and the on-site coffee house, snack bar and minibar cover the smaller appetites between meals.

The main pool is outdoors, surrounded by palms, with a swim-up bar. It is the obvious place for a slow afternoon when you want water without putting a mask on your face. The beach offers the simpler alternative: a lounger, an umbrella and no timetable beyond the tide.

Leopard Spa offers massages, facials, manicures and pedicures, with a relaxation area, sauna and wellness facilities. Couples can book a couples massage, while individual treatments include back, neck, foot, head and full-body massage. The fitness centre and yoga classes give you a way to move without turning the day into another training session.

If you still have energy, the resort offers snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing and boat excursions, as well as on-site water-sports facilities. Evenings can include themed nights, shows, live music, films, karaoke, a games room, billiards, darts or table tennis. Families have a kids' club for children aged 4 to 12, children's activities, indoor and outdoor play areas, a children's menu and babysitting.

An airport shuttle is available from the hotel, and car hire can also be arranged. Ukunda Airport is the nearest airport at 1.6 miles by road; Moi International Airport is 26 miles away. A concierge, luggage storage, a 24-hour front desk and wake-up service keep the practical side of the stay fairly straightforward, particularly when flights and dive days refuse to follow the same timetable.

The listed check-in window is from 12:00 to 16:30, with check-out from 02:30 to 10:00. Early check-in and late check-out can be arranged on request. Children of any age are welcome; children aged 13 and over are charged as adults, cots are available for infants on request and extra beds are not available. Pets are not allowed.
