Dive Ainan

Dive Ainan is situated in the Ehime Prefecture, specifically within the town of Ainan. The centre is positioned to take full advantage of the Uwajima Marine Park, which holds the distinction of being the first designated marine park in Japan.

The local geography is defined by a rias coastline, where the interaction between the land and the Kuroshio current creates a highly dynamic environment. This results in a landscape of reefs, underwater caves, and complex topography that supports a vast array of marine life.

The centre is led by Sho Tanaka and is supported by a team of eight professionals, consisting of five permanent staff and three seasonal instructors. Their guiding philosophy, 'Guide à fond !', reflects a commitment to high-quality underwater instruction and exploration.

As a PADI affiliated centre, they offer structured training programmes for various skill levels. While the primary direction of instruction is in Japanese, the team is able to communicate in English, making the centre accessible to international divers.

The centre provides a full range of PADI certifications to take you from your first breath underwater to more advanced levels. You can complete your Open Water Diver course or progress to the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

For those not looking to dive with cylinders, the centre also offers snorkeling programmes suitable for various ages, with sessions typically lasting between 1.5 and 2 hours. They also host introductory diving experiences for those looking to try the sport for the first time.

The marine life in the Uwajima Marine Park is remarkably diverse, with nearly 850 species of fish recorded in the area. The seabed is characterised by lush seagrass meadows and extensive forests of Sargassum, which provide essential habitat for a wide range of species.

The reef structures are covered in vibrant soft corals, creating a colourful backdrop for your dives. You will also encounter various species of fish navigating through the complex topography of the rias coastline.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty to observe, including Yokoebi shrimp. The presence of diverse habitats like seagrass beds and coral reefs ensures a constant variety of smaller organisms to find during your bottom time.

The diving environment is heavily influenced by the Kuroshio current, which brings dynamic water movement to the area. This current is responsible for the unique underwater landscapes and the high level of biodiversity found in the park.

Divers should be prepared for these dynamic conditions when planning their dives, particularly when exploring the reefs and walls where the current's influence is most pronounced.
