Kaanapali

Kaanapali is a long-standing diving presence in Kaifu-gun, serving the diverse marine environments of Shikoku, Tokushima, Kochi, Kaiyo, Muroto, and Tosashimizu. Since opening in 1998, the centre has focused on the region's unique underwater topography and the life found within its currents.

The centre is deeply integrated into the local marine community, participating in annual conservation initiatives such as Reef Check. This commitment to the local ecosystem complements their focus on teaching divers how to observe the smaller, often overlooked life forms that thrive in these waters.

The team is comprised of two instructors capable of guiding you through a wide spectrum of diving experiences. They handle everything from initial introductory dives to advanced professional training.

With over two decades of local experience, the staff provides a deep understanding of the regional conditions. Their expertise covers a vast range of specialties, ensuring that both recreational divers and those pursuing professional certifications are well supported.

Kaanapali offers a comprehensive curriculum through its BSAC affiliation. You can begin your journey with the Open Water Diver course and progress through Sport Diver, Advanced Diver, and Dive Leader certifications.

For those looking to specialise, the centre provides a wide array of specialty courses. These include technical skills like underwater navigation, photography, and scooter use, as well as safety-focused training such as diver rescue and limited visibility diving. They also offer training in drysuit usage and deep diving.

The centre operates a dedicated dive boat used for excursions to Muroto. This vessel allows you to access the more remote and interesting sites along the coast, providing a stable platform for your dives.

For those travelling light, a full range of equipment is available for hire, including regulators, wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels, BCDs, and weights. The centre also provides warm showers and a dedicated space for logbook entries and meetings.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time or manage their deco profiles. The facility is set up to support both day trips and more structured training programmes.

The waters here are known for their dynamic life, particularly during the spring when you might encounter the Tenguzame (shark carpet). The presence of plankton often plays a significant role in the ecosystem, attracting a variety of smaller marine life.

The local topography supports a diverse range of species, with the currents bringing in different visitors depending on the season. Divers should look closely at the reef structures to find the smaller inhabitants that thrive in these nutrient-rich waters.

Visibility typically ranges between 8 and 13 metres. The presence of plankton can occasionally reduce these levels, though this also serves to attract the smaller marine life that is a highlight of the region.
