Waterworld

Waterworld is situated at the head of the Maharees isthmus on the Dingle Peninsula in Co. Kerry. Established in 1963 by Ronnie and Pat Fitzgibbon, it remains a family-run business spanning three generations. The centre sits just 30 metres from the water's edge, making it a highly accessible base for exploring the Atlantic coast.

As Ireland's first PADI 5-Star Gold Palm Instructor Development Centre and a National Geographic Dive Centre, the facility is built around a deep connection to the local marine environment. Daily boat trips depart to the Maharees Islands and the Brandon Bay area, providing access to some of the most significant diving in the region.

The centre is run by an experienced and qualified team of professionals, managing everything from beginner Discover Scuba Diving sessions to advanced professional training. As an Instructor Development Centre (IDC), they are equipped to train the next generation of dive professionals, including Divemasters, Assistant Instructors, and Scuba Instructors.

Instruction is provided in English, and the team maintains a strong focus on safety and environmental excellence. The centre also caters to younger divers through specific Youth Diving programmes and the PADI Seal Team Camp.

Waterworld offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses, starting from the very first steps with Bubblemaker and Discover Scuba Diving. For those seeking certification, they provide the full progression through Open Water Diver, Scuba Diver, and Advanced Open Water Diver.

Specialty training is extensive, covering areas such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Navigator, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Drift Diver. They also offer specialised training for local conditions, including Dry Suit Diver and Night Diver courses.

Professional training is a core part of the centre's identity. They host the full PADI professional pathway, including Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and the Instructor Development Course (IDC), leading through to Master Instructor.

Daily boat dives depart from the centre to the Maharees Islands and Brandon Bay. These trips are scheduled for 9am and 11am departures.

The centre provides full equipment hire for divers, covering all the essentials needed for local conditions. On-site facilities include an indoor pool, which is useful for training and skills practice, as well as dedicated classrooms and changing rooms.

For those looking to extend their bottom time or dive more efficiently, Nitrox is available. The centre also maintains oxygen safety equipment on-site for emergency response.

The diving season in the area begins early in the year, though the months of July, August, and September typically offer the warmest water temperatures. Visibility in the area can vary significantly, ranging from 7 to 40 metres depending on the conditions.
