Dive Aran

Located on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands, Dive Aran has been operating in Irish waters since 2010. The centre is situated just a short walk from the Kilronan ferry terminal, making it easily accessible for those arriving by ferry from Connemara or Doolin.

The team is composed of locals and ocean enthusiasts who have a deep understanding of the Atlantic's unique conditions. They focus on responsible diving and supporting the local community, ensuring that every excursion respects the fragile marine environment of the islands.

As a family-run operation, the centre maintains a personal atmosphere with a focus on small groups. They operate with a strict ratio of five divers per guide, ensuring close supervision and safety during every dive.

The team is deeply integrated into the islands, providing not just instruction but also support through the Aran Dive Support Team. This volunteer initiative helps maintain the safety and well-being of the local diving community.

Dive Aran is an SSI affiliated centre offering a comprehensive range of training. For those starting their journey, they provide Try Scuba Diving, Junior Open Water Diver, and Open Water Diver courses.

Advanced divers can progress through the Advanced Open Water Diver programme or pursue professional paths through Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Scuba Instructor certifications. The centre also offers specialised training such as Dry Suit, Perfect Buoyancy, and Stress and Rescue, alongside Freediver Level 1 courses.

The centre utilises a 6.5m RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) powered by twin Yamaha 70HP engines. The vessel has a capacity for 5 divers plus one guide, making it ideal for navigating the coastal waters around the islands.

Onboard, you will find essential safety equipment including a VHF radio, a first aid kit, and emergency oxygen. The boat is also equipped with paddles for backup safety, and the team provides a hot drink after your dive to help you warm up.

The shore-based facilities in Kilronan include dedicated classrooms for theory, changing rooms, and showers. There is also a large rear courtyard specifically designed for rinsing and drying your kit after a session in the Atlantic.

Full equipment hire is available for those who do not wish to travel with their own rig. This includes complete sets, as well as individual items such as wetsuits, fins, and masks.

The marine life is defined by the rugged Atlantic environment, with kelp forests providing a home for various species. You will regularly encounter colourful fish, wrasse, and various species of seaweed clinging to the rocky formations.

Macro life is a significant draw for many divers, including lobsters, crayfish, and various species of octopus. If you look closely among the rocks and crevices, you may also find different types of colourful fish and small crustaceans.

During the spring and early autumn, the area becomes a destination for larger pelagics, most notably the basking shark. Grey seals are also a common sight in these waters, often appearing near the kelp forests and rocky reefs.

The diving area is influenced by clear Atlantic waters and the prevailing oceanic currents. It is best to plan your visits between May and October when the conditions are most favourable.

Visibility typically ranges from 5 to 20 metres, depending on the time of year and local conditions. Divers should be prepared for the natural movement of the sea, as the waters are shaped by the Atlantic's influence.
