The marine life on St. Eustatius is defined by its diversity, with sightings ranging from large pelagics to delicate reef dwellers. You will frequently encounter various shark species, including reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, and nurse sharks, often patrolling the deeper walls or resting in the crevices of lava flows.

On the reef tops and sandy patches, look for large stingrays, southern stingrays, and various species of turtles, such as green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles. Groupers, including Nassau groupers, are common residents of the reef structures, often found near ledges and overhangs.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe among the corals and rubble. The area is home to various sea slugs, including colourful lettuce sea slugs, as well as garden eels, trumpetfish, and angelfish. Keep a sharp eye out for the red-spotted sea goddess for a truly special macro encounter.

Crustaceans and other small inhabitants add to the reef's complexity, with spiny lobsters and large lobsters frequently found hiding in the reef flat or under ledges. You may also spot queen conch and various drumfish throughout the marine reserve.
