Barra Reef, Mozambique: Inhambane's rich coastal reef

Barra Reef offers a dive profile that begins in shallower sections around 10 metres, gradually sloping down to a maximum depth of 30 metres. This isn't a dramatic wall or an isolated pinnacle; instead, you'll navigate a complex topography of hard and soft coral gardens, interspersed with coral heads and sandy patches. The structure itself provides numerous hiding spots and foraging grounds, creating a rich environment that changes as you explore the different depth contours of the reef.

As you move across the reef, you'll notice the transition from more exposed coral formations to sheltered sandy areas where different species thrive. The reef supports a high biodiversity typical of the Indo-Ocean region, which translates into a constant presence of activity around the coral structures.
