Abect Aqua Dive Centre

Abect Aqua Dive Centre is situated in Kampung Tekek on Pulau Tioman, approximately 1000 metres from the Tekek jetty and the international airport. Set against a backdrop of green hills and clear waters, the centre serves as a dedicated hub for divers looking to explore the marine richness of the Pahang coast.

Since its founding in 2010, the centre has maintained a personal, family-oriented atmosphere. It is positioned near the Berjaya Tioman Resort, with local transport options like motorcycle shuttles available to help you reach the facility from nearby accommodation.

The centre is led by founder Abect (Badawi B Fauzi), a certified NAUI instructor who manages diver safety and equipment maintenance. The team operates as a family business, with Mimie overseeing business development and marketing to ensure a professional yet relaxed environment for all guests.

Instruction is provided in English, Malay, and Chinese. Beyond standard recreational courses, the centre is involved in professional development, supporting NAUI training and offering placement assistance for recent graduates. They also provide services for independent instructors and other dive centres who require catering or accommodation facilities.

Abect Aqua Dive Centre provides a full spectrum of training through both NAUI and PADI affiliations. For those starting their journey, they offer the NAUI OW Course, PADI OW Course, and OWD certifications.

Advanced divers can progress through the NAUI AOW Course, PADI AOW Course, and AOWD levels. The curriculum also includes the NAUI Rescue Course, PADI Rescue Course, and Rescue Diver training, alongside various specialty courses such as the Wreck Specialty.

The centre maintains a focus on equipment quality and cleanliness, with dedicated facilities for rinsing kit and preparing for dives. Nitrox is available on-site for divers looking to extend their bottom times.

For those staying in the Tekek area, the centre can assist with ferry bookings and local accommodation arrangements, ranging from basic guesthouses to more luxurious options.

The reefs of Tioman are vibrant ecosystems. You will regularly encounter hawksbill turtles, reef sharks, and various species of grouper. Schools of fusiliers, emperors, and barracudas are common, alongside resident napoleon wrasse, titan triggerfish, and parrotfish.

On the deeper walls and rocky outcrops, look for blue spotted stingrays, moray eels, and various species of snapper and grouper. You may also spot whitetip reef sharks, nurse sharks, and large rays patrolling the sandy patches or cruising near the reef edges.

For macro enthusiasts, the area is a haven for nudibranchs, scorpionfish, and various species of shrimp. Keep a close eye on the reef for seahorses, stonefish, and different types of crabs, as well as various species of anemone shrimp and nudibranchs.

Specific seasonal events occur between February and March, when reef squid congregate in large numbers during their breeding season. This period is particularly notable for photographers looking to capture the local marine life in action.

Diving conditions on Tioman can vary depending on the site. Some locations, such as Chebeh Island North and Kadok Bay, are known for strong currents that can facilitate drift diving.

Visibility typically ranges from 5 to 30 metres. While the reefs are generally accessible, certain months like July and August can see visibility drop to around 8 metres.
