Bahía Príncipe Grand Aquamarine is a five-star, adults-only resort in Punta Cana, designed for adults who want an all-inclusive stay with room to choose their own pace. You can spend the day on the beach, by the pool, at the spa or moving between the resort’s activities without having to organise every hour like a military exercise.

Couples and groups of friends fit the setup particularly well. There is enough going on for an evening not to end with an early night by accident, but the resort also gives you plenty of obvious places to sit, eat and slow down. You are in the Arena Gorda–Macao area of Punta Cana, on the Dominican Republic’s east coast. The resort sits directly beside the sea, with direct access to a white-sand beach equipped with sun loungers and parasols. No road transfer is needed to reach the sand; the Caribbean is part of the address rather than an excursion on the programme.

Punta Cana International Airport is about 18 miles away by road. Cana Bay Golf Club is around 2 miles away, while Macao mangroves are about 3 miles away and Macao Beach around 4 miles. The wider Punta Cana area is close at hand, with Parque San Juan roughly 10 miles away and several bars within driving distance, including Drink Point and Mangu Disco at around 6 to 7 miles.

The accommodation is arranged as junior suites and superior suites for one, two or three adults, so the useful choice is less about finding a family layout and more about deciding how much space and which location suit your trip. Travelling alone? The single-occupancy options keep the booking straightforward. Sharing with another diver, or travelling as a trio, means choosing a category set up for the number of adults rather than trying to make a smaller room do gymnastics.

Each room category is built around the same practical scale, with a private bathroom, shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. You also get air conditioning, a fan, wardrobe space, a sofa and seating area, a desk, television with satellite channels, free WiFi and a minibar. A balcony or terrace gives you somewhere to sit when you have had enough of both the water and the air-conditioning. There is a restaurant, a snack bar, a bar and a pool bar, so you do not have to turn every drink into a formal outing. Room service is available for an additional charge, while the all-inclusive plan covers the main resort arrangement.

Semi-formal dinner rules are worth remembering if your normal post-dive uniform is a T-shirt, shorts and the faint aroma of neoprene. Pack something suitable for the evening and you will not have to negotiate with the wardrobe at the last minute.

One outdoor pool, a private beach area, sun loungers and parasols cover the essential recovery programme. If your legs have had enough for the day, the spa adds a steam room, sauna, hot tub, relaxation area, foot bath and a range of body and beauty treatments. Massages include back, neck, foot, head, hand and full-body options, alongside body scrubs, wraps, facials, manicures and pedicures.

The fitness side is more active, with a fitness centre, fitness classes and yoga classes. Away from the gym, you can play tennis, badminton, squash, mini golf, table tennis, billiards or darts. There is also cycling, a games room and a casino, while live music, performances, karaoke, bingo and evening entertainment give the evening somewhere to go after dinner.

For a day away from the resort, the excursion programme includes boat trips, islands, waterfalls, markets and snorkelling. Water-sports facilities are available on site, as are canoeing and windsurfing, with some activities carrying an additional charge. The list is broad enough to keep a non-diving partner occupied without requiring you to pretend that a third poolside cocktail counts as a cultural excursion.

Punta Cana International Airport is the practical arrival point, roughly 18 miles from the resort by road. An airport shuttle is available, and a shuttle service can also be arranged. The 24-hour front desk deals with arrivals at any hour, although standard check-in starts at 3 pm and check-out runs until noon. Bring photo identification and the credit card required at check-in.

Free private parking is available on site, and WiFi is free throughout the property. You will also find an ATM, currency exchange, luggage storage, lockers, a tour desk and car hire. An on-site infirmary adds a useful bit of practical cover, particularly if a small holiday mishap decides to appear between two otherwise sensible days.

Cash is not accepted at the property. Laundry, ironing and dry-cleaning services are available, and the resort also has a barber and beauty shop. The adults-only policy means children are not admitted, while cots and extra beds are not available.
