The best time to visit the archipelago for diving is generally between October and April. During the period from November to February, the area becomes a significant site for sea turtle activity.

Local conditions vary between the different islands, with the uninhabited reefs of Thinnakara offering different environments compared to the more sheltered areas around Agatti.
