Kefi Divers

Kefi Divers is situated in the coastal village of Almyrida, serving as a gateway to the varied underwater landscapes of Crete. From the sheltered reefs of the coastline to the deeper, more dramatic drop-offs of the Mediterranean, the area offers a wide spectrum of diving environments.

The centre operates with a focus on both shore-based exploration and boat-led excursions, ensuring access to sites that cannot be reached from the beach. This allows divers to experience everything from calm, shallow nurseries to more technical wreck and wall dives.

The team at Kefi Divers is PADI affiliated and provides instruction and guiding in English, French, and Greek. They maintain a strict approach to dive supervision, ensuring that groups remain small and manageable for all skill levels.

For Discover Scuba Diving participants, the ratio is kept to a maximum of two students per instructor. For boat-based diving, the guide-to-diver ratio does not exceed four to one, allowing for a more controlled and personalised experience on the water.

Beyond standard instruction, the centre is committed to marine conservation and responsible diving practices. They actively participate in marine research projects and educate their divers on minimising environmental impact during every excursion.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses catering to all levels of experience. Beginners can start with the Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver programmes, while those looking to progress can work through the Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver certifications.

Specialised training is also available for divers looking to refine specific skills. This includes the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course, as well as more technical or niche specialties such as Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Night Diver, Underwater Navigator, and Boat Diver. For those pursuing professional paths, Divemaster training is available on-site.

Kefi Divers provides a full range of rental equipment for those who do not wish to carry their own kit. This includes everything required for a complete dive, from regulators and BCDs to fins and masks.

The centre also provides full diving insurance for its clients. For groups of four or more, a free pick-up service is available to assist with logistics.

The marine life in the Chania region is diverse, with many species frequenting the reefs and wrecks. You will regularly encounter Mediterranean barracudas, groupers, sea bream, and various species of wrasse. Larger pelagics such as tuna and greater amberjack are also present in the area.

Macro life enthusiasts can find plenty to observe, including octopus, cuttlefish, and various nudibranchs. Scorpionfish and moray eels are often found tucked into the crevices of the reef, while seahorses can be spotted in the right conditions.

Seasonality plays a role in what you might see during your dives. Stingrays are common from May to September, while squid can be found between March and June, and again from September to November. If you dive between May and October, you may also encounter anchovies, and trumpetfish are present from June to October.

Diving in the Almyrida area ranges from protected, calm reef environments to more open water sites. The availability of boat trips allows access to deeper sites and those located further offshore, which may experience different conditions than the immediate shoreline.
