Volcano Bubbles Diving School

Nisyros is a unique volcanic island where the geology of the earth meets the Aegean Sea. The underwater landscape is defined by active volcanic activity, which creates a habitat rich in biodiversity and striking geological formations. You can dive alongside underwater volcanoes and explore terrain shaped by gas emissions and warm water vents.

Located in Mandraki town near the Haritos hotel, Volcano Bubbles Diving School provides access to these extraordinary sites. The area offers a diverse range of environments, from sandy bottoms and reef flats to deep volcanic faults and complex cave systems.

The school is led by Michael Pachos, a PADI Master Scuba Diving Instructor (MSDT) and two-time PADI Elite Instructor. He is joined by Aomjai Sujariya, a PADI Divemaster and boat captain, ensuring a professional approach to both instruction and boat handling.

As a PADI ECO CENTER, the team is deeply committed to marine conservation. Their work goes beyond standard diving, involving underwater clean-ups and active research into sponge reproduction to help restore local habitats.

The centre operates with a focus on small groups, allowing for individualised attention to meet the specific needs of each student, whether they are completing their first certification or training for professional levels.

Volcano Bubbles offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving before progressing through the Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver certifications.

For those looking to specialise, the school provides PADI specialty training in Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Night Diving, and Underwater Imaging. Professional divers can also undertake the Divemaster course at this centre.

The centre provides various services for divers, including the use of underwater scooters to explore deeper or more complex sites. For night dives, UV lighting is available to highlight the marine life that emerges after dark.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for those not travelling with their own kit. While specific brands are not listed, the school is equipped to support divers from the Discover Scuba Diving level through to advanced technical exploration.

The volcanic environment supports a diverse range of species. You will encounter various kinds of fish, including giant groupers and larger hunting fish that patrol the reefs. Stingrays are frequently seen on the sandy bottom at Stingray Champagne.

In the deeper volcanic cracks and caves, the scenery is defined by colourful sponges and soft corals. The walls of the caves and faults are often home to various species of shrimps.

Macro life and specific species are highlights of the local waters. Lionfishes are a main attraction at The Well, and Great barracuda are seasonally present from September to December. For those interested in night diving, the use of UV light can reveal different aspects of the marine life active after sunset.

The diving environment is shaped by the island's volcanic nature, with some sites featuring warm water and gas emissions. Visibility in the area can reach up to 40 metres, providing excellent sightlines for exploring the deeper faults and caves.
