Blutopia Marine Park sits on the southwestern coast of Rhodes, an area uniquely shaped by its proximity to protected fish farms. These zones have become unintentional marine sanctuaries, providing a stable habitat where biodiversity flourishes undisturbed. Founded in 2007, the centre has spent over 15 years establishing itself as a specialist in marine ecotourism and ocean literacy.

You will find yourself diving in a landscape that blends natural beauty with significant maritime history. The coastline here is part of the Natura 2000 protected network, ensuring that the ecosystems you explore remain healthy and vibrant. Whether you are drawn to the large pelagics or the quiet atmosphere of a wreck, the area offers a distinct alternative to the busier dive hubs of the island.

The centre is led by a team of marine biologists and experienced instructors who prioritise education alongside exploration. This scientific approach means your dives often include insights into the delicate balance of the Mediterranean ecosystem. The team is able to communicate in English, Greek, Dutch, and German, ensuring clear guidance during briefings and training.

Safety and personal attention are central to their operation, with a guide-to-diver ratio maintained between 2 and 5 divers. This small-group focus allows for a more intimate experience, whether you are participating in a standard recreational dive or a more specialised scientific programme. Blutopia offers a range of training through the SSI affiliation, catering to both recreational and scientific interests. You can work through standard certifications or engage in more specialised learning, such as Scientific diving and SCUBA certification with a specific focus on marine monitoring.

The curriculum is designed to integrate ocean literacy and field-based research, making it an ideal choice for divers who want to move beyond basic skills and into the realm of citizen science and blue skills training.

The fleet consists of three distinct vessels to suit different diving styles. The Blutopia is a larger passenger boat with a capacity of 39, providing a stable platform for group excursions. For those seeking a more direct or private experience, the Blupearl VIP speedboat and the Blunatura speedboat offer faster, more agile transit to the sites.

Onboard, you will find full sunshade coverage to protect you from the Mediterranean sun, along with two toilets and fresh drinking water. For full-day trips, snacks and refreshments are provided. The boats also carry life jackets and complete snorkeling equipment for those not diving on SCUBA.

The shore-based facilities are designed to support efficient dive preparation. A pressuriser system is used for scuba tank refills, ensuring a reliable supply of air for your dives. While the centre focuses heavily on the marine experience, they also provide snorkeling equipment for guests.

Transfers can be arranged from most areas of Rhodes, including hotel pick-up and drop-off. For guests staying in the southern parts of the island, such as Lindos or Gennadi, prior arrangements are necessary to coordinate your arrival at the Kamiros Skala Harbour base.

The area is a magnet for large pelagics, particularly around the Makry island sites. You can expect to encounter Yellowfin Tuna, Mediterranean Barracuda, Bluefin Tuna, and Little Tunny. Greater Amberjacks are also frequently seen near the Blusky Wreck, while Dolphins are a regular presence in these waters.

The reef and wall environments are teeming with diverse fish life, including Groupers, Sea Bass, Stingrays, and Boops Boops. You will also spot Pipefish and various smaller reef species navigating the structures of the wrecks and the natural terrain.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are abundant throughout the sanctuary. Look out for Lionfish, especially near the wrecks, as well as various sea stars and sea urchins decorating the seabed. The presence of healthy seagrass and reef structures provides a home for a wide array of smaller organisms.

Diving in this region is most consistent from May through to the end of October. The waters are generally calm, though some sites experience mild currents that can affect navigation, particularly around the fish farm zones and the Makry island area.

Sea conditions are a vital factor for certain sites; for example, the Pytheas Wreck requires calm sea conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable dive. While many sites offer sheltered environments, it is always wise to check the daily conditions with your guide before heading out.
