Dive Masters Malta

Divemasters Malta is situated in the village of Siġġiewi, specifically on the shores of Għar Lapsi. This location offers immediate access to some of the most significant underwater sites in the Maltese archipelago, placing you closer to the wrecks and geological formations than almost anywhere else on the island.

Founded in 2024 by Franky Azzopardi, the centre is an SSI affiliated school led by Joe Painter, a professional with extensive experience in Maltese waters. The facility is designed to support a diverse community of divers, from those taking their first breaths underwater to technical divers operating rebreathers.

The team is led by Joe Painter, who brings over five years of local professional experience to the centre. The school is built around a mission of fostering a deep understanding of marine ecosystems and promoting the conservation of the Mediterranean environment.

As an SSI affiliated centre, the instruction follows a structured, professional curriculum. The school aims to train the next generation of dive professionals, offering pathways from entry-level certifications through to Divemaster training.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the full spectrum of SSI certifications. Beginners can start with Try Dive, Basic Diver, or Open Water Diver programmes, while those looking to refine their skills can enrol in the Perfect Buoyancy Program or the Diver Update Course.

Advanced divers can specialise through various SSI Specialty Diver paths, including Wreck Diver, Deep Diver, Navigation Specialty Diver, Night Diver, and Dry Suit Diver. The centre also provides professional training for those pursuing a career in diving, including the Divemaster course. Technical training is supported through Decompression Diver and rebreather-related studies.

The centre operates a fully equipped dive shop and a shop for kayaking enthusiasts. The rental kit is noted for being new and of high quality, ensuring reliability for both recreational and technical divers.

For those looking to move into technical territory, the centre is equipped to support rebreather diving, providing Poseidon and Divesoft systems. The shore-based facilities include an air-conditioned centre for preparation and relaxation.

The reefs and coastal areas around Għar Lapsi are home to diverse fish populations, including various schools of fish and rays. You can frequently encounter octopus and cuttlefish amongst the rocky crevices and reef structures.

Macro life is a highlight for many divers in this region. The seabed and reef flats host nudibranchs, as well as various species of octopus and cuttlefish that inhabit the Mediterranean floor.

The underwater scenery is defined by colourful corals and a variety of invertebrates. Divers will find a rich environment of sponges and other fixed life that provides a backdrop for the mobile species of the area.
