Fish Alley, Nampula: Reef and Wall Diving in Mozambique

Fish Alley greets you as a gently sloping reef, easily accessible from the shore in Nampula, Mozambique. The shallowest sections, starting at just 3 meters, are a mosaic of coral bommies interspersed with seagrass beds. This initial area is ideal for acclimatization, allowing you to settle into your dive while observing the resident life hidden within the vibrant corals and sandy patches. The light here is bright and clear, enhancing the colors of the reef and setting the stage for the deeper sections of the dive.

As you move further out, the reef gradually slopes towards the edge of the continental shelf, where it transforms into a dramatic wall. While the official dive depth extends to 30 meters, the wall itself continues to drop well beyond that, exceeding 60 meters in certain areas. This transition from a gentle, shallow reef to a substantial vertical face offers a compelling change of scenery, hinting at the diversity that lies in the deeper blue.

The coral bommies scattered throughout the shallower parts of Fish Alley are particularly rich in color, serving as miniature ecosystems within the larger reef. These species rely on the reef's structure for food, shelter, and breeding, making this site a reliable spot for observing their natural behaviors.

The presence of seagrass beds adjacent to the coral bommies adds another layer of habitat diversity to Fish Alley.
