Pinda - Nuarro Lodge

Pinda - Nuarro Lodge is situated in the Bay of Nanatha, Mozambique, offering a rare opportunity to dive on immaculate reefs that sit in close proximity to the continental shelf. The location is defined by its accessibility, with many of the most interesting sites reachable via easy shore entries or short boat trips.

The area provides a diverse underwater landscape, ranging from gentle slopes and coral bommies to dramatic vertical drop-offs and mysterious mangrove systems. Because the lodge is situated in a protected bay, the environment is often calmer than the open coast, making it a versatile destination for various experience levels.

The centre is a PADI affiliated facility operated by a team of experienced international and local instructors. English is the primary language used for instruction and dive operations.

The team manages a wide range of activities, from introductory Discover Scuba Diving sessions to more advanced training. The staff is trained to handle a variety of diving styles, including night dives and specialized underwater photography excursions.

The centre offers a full suite of PADI training, starting with the Discover Scuba Diving programme for those new to the water. For those looking to certify, the PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses are available.

To facilitate learning, the centre utilises PADI eLearning, allowing you to complete your theoretical studies at home before arriving on site. The in-water portion of the training includes all necessary confined water sessions, equipment hire, and qualification dives.

Motorised dive boats are available to take you to the deeper sites and the wreck at Baixo do Pinda. These vessels are fully equipped with the necessary safety gear to ensure secure operations out on the water.

The centre maintains a full range of rental kit, including Scubapro regulators, BCDs, dive computers, wetsuits, masks, and fins. For those preferring their own equipment, there is secure storage available on-site.

Cylinders are provided in various sizes, including 7, 10, 12, and 15-litre aluminium options, with both DIN and INT valve types available. The facility also includes a dedicated washing area, hot showers, and solar-powered electricity to support your post-dive routine.

The reef flats and shallow slopes are home to a vibrant community of garden eels (Gorgasia), ribbon eels, and various species of Goby (Gobiidae). You will also find pufferfish (Arothron hispidus), sand perches, and various mullet (Mugilidae) moving through the seagrass and coral bommies.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, including a variety of nudibranchs, such as the giant Spanish Dancer, and various cowries. The area is also well-regarded for spotting garden eels and smaller crustaceans among the coral structures.

For those looking for larger animals, Humpback whales can be seen in the area from June to November. The reefs are also populated by reef fish, regal angelfish, and various species of tropical reef fish.

The hardscape is provided by healthy coral formations and diverse sponge life, creating a complex habitat for the resident sea turtles (Cheloniidae) and other pelagic fish that pass through the bay.

The Bay of Nanatha provides natural protection against the dominant currents, often resulting in calmer diving conditions than the open ocean. This makes the area particularly suitable for shore entries and relaxed reef exploration.

While the bay offers protection, the proximity to the continental shelf means that some sites can feature more significant topography and varied water movement.
