Gozo Azul Diving

Located in Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique, Gozo Azul sits in a prime position for divers seeking high-quality encounters with pelagic species. The centre is positioned near the border with South Africa, approximately 10 km from the Kosi Bay border post and about a 5 to 6-hour drive from Durban.

As a PADI 5 Star IDC centre and a recognized PADI Eco Centre, Gozo Azul has been operating for over 16 years. The centre provides a comprehensive diving experience, from introductory dives to advanced technical training, all within a professional, family-managed environment.

The centre is a PADI 5 Star IDC facility, meaning it is authorised to train both divers and new professionals. This high level of affiliation ensures a structured approach to both recreational and technical instruction.

Instruction is conducted in English, making it accessible for international divers. The team manages a wide array of training programmes, including professional-level courses such as Divemaster training.

Gozo Azul offers a complete spectrum of PADI training. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Diver course, progressing through Adventure Diver, Advanced Diver, and Rescue Diver levels.

For those looking to specialise, the centre provides several specialty courses, including Deep Diver, Night Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck Diver, and Underwater Navigator. They also offer conservation-focused training such as the Aware Coral Reef Conservation Diver and Project Aware Shark Conservation programmes.

Technical divers will find a dedicated curriculum here, including the TecRec series. This includes TEC 40, TEC 45, and TEC 50 courses, as well as Sidemount Diver and TEC Sidemount Diver training. The centre also facilitates professional development through Divemaster training.

The centre provides a full range of equipment for hire, ensuring you can dive even if you are travelling light. This includes regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, fins, and torches for night diving.

For those looking to extend their bottom time, Nitrox is available on-site. The facility is well-equipped to support both recreational divers and those pursuing more advanced training.

The area is globally recognised for its shark populations. Between October and May, you can expect to see a variety of species including Bull sharks, Hammerheads, Silver tips, Dusky sharks, Black tips, and Leopard sharks.

Whale watching is also a seasonal highlight, with sightings occurring between July and November. Other regular residents include sea turtles, dolphins, and a wide array of reef fish.

The reef ecosystems support a diverse range of life, providing a constant backdrop of marine activity for every dive.

Diving is possible year-round in Ponta do Ouro. While the specific seasonal patterns for currents or swell are not detailed, the marine life arrivals are highly seasonal, particularly for sharks and whales.
