SoLo Suites is an aparthotel for divers who prefer a useful base to a full-service resort routine. You get a furnished suite with a kitchen, living space, air conditioning and private bathroom, so the evening can be as simple as cooking something substantial, stretching out on the sofa and leaving the day’s logistics until tomorrow.

The hotel’s website is in English. The property has 40 suites, with studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts, and stays are available nightly, weekly or monthly. That gives you rather more room to settle in than a standard hotel room, particularly if you are travelling with family or simply prefer not to live out of one suitcase for a week.

There is free WiFi throughout, free on-site parking and individually controlled heating as well as air conditioning. In other words, you can adjust the room to suit the weather rather than negotiating with a central thermostat like it is a particularly stubborn dive computer.

The address is 590 Goldstream Avenue in Langford, within Victoria, British Columbia, on the Westshore and just off Island Highway. You are close to Langford’s commercial centre rather than on the waterfront, with shops, grocery stores, restaurants and a walk-in clinic within walking distance. A railway station is about 700 metres away, and a transit stop sits across the street for journeys towards Victoria.

This is an urban base with nature close at hand. Veterans Memorial Park is about 500 metres away, Mill Hill Regional Park about 1.5 miles away and Hatley Park National Historic Site about 1.9 miles away. Goldstream Provincial Park, Thetis Lake and Hatley Castle are also among the nearby outings promoted for the area.

Witty’s Beach is about 4.3 miles away. The Victoria Inner Harbour Airport is roughly 9 miles by road, while Victoria International Airport is about 17 miles by road. The centre of Victoria is around 25 minutes away by car, so you can reach the city without giving up the practical advantages of staying in Langford.

The useful distinction here is not a long list of room names; it is how much domestic space you want around your diving life. A studio suits a couple travelling light, while a one-bedroom suite gives you a separate living area for drying off, sorting the next day’s clothes and keeping the sleeping space as the quiet end of the operation. For four people, the two-bedroom suite is the sensible choice, with two bathrooms and enough separation to prevent every morning from becoming a group equipment briefing.

The kitchen setup is more than decorative. You have a refrigerator, stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine, kettle and kitchenware, along with a dining area and seating area. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer in the suite, which is particularly handy when several days of travel have made the laundry bag look like it has its own agenda.

Every unit has a balcony or patio, a private entrance and air conditioning. Individual heating controls cover cooler evenings, while the bathroom includes a shower or bath, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. A desk, sofa, wardrobe and flat-screen television with cable channels and streaming services round out the room. Accessible facilities include a lift, wheelchair access, raised toilets and accessible accommodation, although upper floors are also accessible by stairs only.

There is no hotel restaurant, bar or breakfast service to organise your day around. Instead, the suite’s kitchen lets you make coffee before an early start, put together a proper meal when you return hungry, or keep breakfast on your own timetable rather than waiting for a dining room to open.

You are not stranded with the frying pan. Several restaurants sit within a 10-minute walk along Goldstream Avenue, including Dagwood Cafe, May Gold Village and Boston Pizza. Starbucks is about 3,050 feet away and Tim Hortons about 0.8 miles away, so coffee, a quick bite or a more formal sit-down meal are all straightforward options nearby.

The dining area gives you somewhere to eat without balancing a plate on the sofa, and the dishwasher deals with the aftermath. That is the quiet advantage of an aparthotel: after a long day, dinner can be fresh, familiar and finished whenever you decide it is.

The Westshore gives you a reasonable choice of land-based days when you are not diving. Mill Hill Regional Park is about 1.5 miles away and offers a nearby change of pace, while Veterans Memorial Park is close enough for a short walk when you want fresh air without turning the afternoon into an expedition. Goldstream Provincial Park and Thetis Lake are also available for outings in the surrounding area.

Golf is available within 3 km, and the property’s area activities include hiking and cultural excursions. Hatley Park National Historic Site is about 1.9 miles away, while Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site and the Esquimalt Lagoon Migratory Bird Sanctuary are each about 2.6 miles away. Fisgard Lighthouse is around 2.6 miles away as well, giving you a compact list of places to explore by car.

Back at the suites, the sun terrace, terrace, outdoor seating and picnic area give you somewhere to sit outside with a coffee or a book. There is no timetable to follow, which may be exactly the point on the day when your legs have voted for a chair.

Check-in is available from 16:00 until midnight, and check-out is until 11:00. You need photo identification and a credit card at arrival, and the property asks you to share your expected arrival time in advance. The minimum age for check-in is 19. The hotel is non-smoking, quiet hours run from 22:00 to 08:00, and parties or events are not permitted, so the evening atmosphere is better suited to recovery than to a post-dive nightclub experiment.

Pets are accepted on request, with pet-friendly suites available alongside rooms for guests travelling without animals. Children of any age are welcome. Extra beds can be requested, subject to the accommodation chosen and availability, while cots are not available. There is no airport shuttle; the location just off Island Highway makes a car or local transport the practical approach.
