Utila Dive Centre

Utila Dive Centre has established itself as a primary hub for PADI training in the Caribbean, operating for more than 20 years. Located in Utila, Honduras, the centre provides a structured environment for both recreational divers and those looking to pursue a professional career in the industry.

The centre is known for its technical breadth, offering everything from basic certifications to advanced programmes in sidemount, full-face mask diving, and conservation through the GoECO initiative. The instructional team is composed of highly qualified professionals, including Master Scuba Diver Trainers. This level of expertise ensures that divers receive guidance that meets high international standards, particularly for those undertaking career-oriented courses like Divemaster or Instructor.

To maintain a safe and personalised environment, the centre strictly limits group sizes to a maximum of six divers per guide. Instruction is conducted in both English and Spanish, catering to an international community of divers.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the entire PADI progression from Open Water Diver through to Divemaster and Instructor. For those looking to refine specific skills, the centre offers specialties such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Deep Diver, Navigation, and Night Diver.

Advanced and technical divers can access Sidemount Diver, Full Face Mask Diver, and Nitrox training. The centre also caters to specialists through Underwater Photography and Caribbean Lionfish Containment Diver courses, as well as environmental training via the AWARE Project Specialist programme.

The centre provides a full range of equipment for hire, including dive computers which are included in certain training courses. For those looking to focus on their photography, dedicated rinse tanks are available on-site to care for camera housings and accessories.

For divers staying at the Mango Inn Resort, which is a short ten-minute walk from the centre, the transition from accommodation to the dive shop is straightforward. The resort itself features a freshwater training pool, providing an ideal environment for mastering buoyancy or practicing skills before heading out to the reef.

The local reefs are home to a variety of resident species, including various tropical fish, turtles, and rays. You will regularly encounter sharks and other pelagics throughout the area.

Between January and August, the presence of whale sharks becomes a seasonal highlight for divers in the region. During these months, the opportunity to see these large filter feeders increases significantly.

The seabed and reef structures are adorned with corals, providing a complex habitat for smaller marine life. You will find various small resident fish moving through the reef flat and around the coral formations.

The diving environment in Utila is influenced by seasonal patterns, with the best conditions typically occurring between January and August. During this period, the local ecosystem is most active.

While many dives are conducted on the reef, divers should be aware that stronger currents can occur in channel environments or during drift dives in other regions, such as the Galapagos or the Maldives.
