Utila Lodge

English and Spanish are spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practicalities of your stay without resorting to hand signals. Utila Lodge is a 22-room beachfront lodge on the island of Utila, with the sea, a restaurant and a bar all part of the same address.

The feel is straightforward and easy-going rather than formal. You have outdoor seating, a sun terrace, a games room and a beach where the loungers and parasols are already part of the picture. For couples, the sea-view rooms and the beach bar set up the evening neatly; for families, children of all ages are welcome and the restaurant has a child-friendly buffet.

Utila Lodge sits directly on the coast of Utila, Honduras, with its own white-sand beach. That gives you somewhere to swim, sunbathe or sit outside without making the beach a separate excursion from the hotel.

Chepes Beach is an 8-minute walk away, while Bando Beach is about 1 mile away on foot. Sandy Bay is around half a mile away, and Rock Point is roughly 1 mile away. Munchies Cafe: Chill & Grill is about 650 feet from the lodge, useful when you fancy a change of scene without turning dinner into a transport operation.

Golosón International Airport is 24 miles away, and Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport is 28 miles away. The island location matters here: airport arrangements are part of the journey, not a small detail to deal with at the last minute.

The sea-view room is the obvious choice when the view matters as much as the bed. Its balcony gives you outdoor space attached to your room, with furniture for sitting rather than merely admiring the balcony from indoors. A private bathroom with a shower keeps the practical end of the day simple.

Air conditioning and a fan cover the warmer nights, while the private entrance gives the room a little separation from the shared areas. There is also a dining table, a seating area and a flat-screen TV with cable channels, so you have somewhere to put your coffee, sit down properly or switch off without having to perch on the bed.

A washing machine and a drying rack are useful for ordinary holiday clothes, particularly if you are travelling light. Daily housekeeping is included, and the rooms are non-smoking. Upper floors are reached by stairs, while wheelchair-accessible facilities are available elsewhere at the property.

The Lodge Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in an open-air setting, with an international menu built around fresh, local ingredients. The dress code is casual, which is exactly what you want when the day has involved salt water, sun and rather more kit than most restaurants usually tolerate.

Breakfast is included in the stay. The restaurant also offers American and Caribbean dishes, with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free choices, so the table is not limited to one style of food when you are hungry enough to consider eating the menu.

There is one bar: The Beach Bar. It specialises in cocktails and faces the sort of sunset that makes people briefly put their phones down. Happy hour is also available, while wine and champagne can be ordered when the occasion calls for something less rum-based.

The beach is the main place to reset between outings, with white sand, sun loungers and parasols. You can swim, sunbathe or settle on the sun terrace with outdoor seating; the lodge also has a solarium for those who prefer their relaxation in a more deliberate format.

On the water, snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding and boat excursions are available, with equipment hire also offered. Fishing is another option. These are useful choices for a non-diving day, or for a partner who wants to be on the water without following the full descent-and-ascent routine.

Back on land, the games room has billiards, board games and puzzles. The lodge can also arrange horse riding and hiking away from the property, while excursions include a visit to Utila town and trips into the mangroves. Wildlife observation and cultural excursions add something to the days when the sea can wait.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 19:00, and check-out from 06:00 to 11:00. The early check-out window is worth keeping in mind if your onward journey starts promptly. Children of all ages are welcome, although children aged 12 and over are charged as adults. Cots and extra beds are not available.

An airport shuttle is available through the lodge and can be arranged as part of your arrival planning. WiFi is free throughout the property, and daily housekeeping, currency exchange, a safety deposit box, luggage storage and concierge services are available. Laundry is also available.

Cash, Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Pets can stay on request. The lodge also offers street parking on site, with no reservation possible, and the accommodation is wheelchair accessible; upper floors are reached by stairs.
