Diving Shop Kappa

OSE DIVING CENTER Kappa is situated in a unique, sacred setting among juniper trees near the Ose Shrine at Megasaki. Taking over the legacy of the well-known Mambo centre in May 2025, the shop has established itself as a dedicated hub for divers looking to explore the Izu coastline.

The centre operates 365 days a year, ensuring that whether you are looking for a seasonal excursion or a mid-winter dive, there is always a way to get in the water. Their location at Osezaki allows for a diverse range of diving environments, from sheltered bay waters to the more active open sea.

The team is led by Yasuhiro Suzuki (known locally as Su-san) and Noriko (Norigon), both of whom bring more than 25 years of experience guiding in the Osezaki area. This deep local knowledge is central to their operation, providing divers with a reliable understanding of the local currents and marine life patterns.

They aim to provide a 'third place' for their customers—a social space outside of home or work where the diving community can gather. The centre is highly accessible, offering a free shuttle service from Nirayama Station and providing 12 dedicated parking spaces for those arriving by car.

The centre's offices have been relocated to the water's edge, providing a convenient base for preparing for dives. For those travelling by train, the free shuttle from Nirayama Station simplifies the logistics of getting to the site.

Lunch arrangements are flexible; the centre can provide bento boxes, or you are welcome to bring your own meal for the day's excursions.

The waters around Osezaki are home to a variety of mobile species. You can regularly encounter starry rays and blue rays patrolling the seabed, while Karappa crabs inhabit the local environment. During certain times of the year, you may also see squid.

Predatory fish are often active in the area, particularly when they are hunting schools of sardines. These larger encounters provide a more dynamic experience for divers venturing into the open sea sections of the peninsula.

For those interested in smaller life, the area supports various crustaceans and reef inhabitants, including the Karappa crab.

Diving schedules and access points vary depending on the season and the specific zone being visited, whether it be the sheltered bay, the open sea, or the peninsula point. Night diving is also an available option.

Local traditions and religious observances can affect availability; for example, the morning of 4 April is typically avoided due to the Ose festival.
