Salang Bay Divers

Located in the sheltered waters of Salang Bay on Tioman Island, Salang Bay Divers provides a base for exploring one of Malaysia's most diverse marine environments. The centre has been established since 2015, serving both those looking to start their journey and experienced divers seeking local expertise.

The location is ideal for those wanting to access the island's reefs and various underwater features. Whether you are completing your first certification or looking for recreational dives, the centre is positioned to facilitate easy access to the surrounding waters.

The centre was founded by Tash, a PADI Staff Instructor with more than 20 years of experience specifically diving the waters around Tioman Island. This deep local knowledge is central to the way the team operates, ensuring that dive planning is informed by years of observing the local conditions.

The team consists of experienced and dedicated PADI instructors. Their primary focus is on maintaining high safety standards and providing quality instruction for students of all levels, from beginners to those pursuing advanced specialties.

Salang Bay Divers is a PADI authorised centre offering a comprehensive curriculum. For beginners, they provide Discover Scuba Diving and the Bubblemaker programme. The core certification path includes Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to progress further, the centre offers Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and various specialty courses such as the PADI Deep Diver and Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver. Emergency First Responder (EFR) training is also available to ensure divers are prepared for any situation.

For divers preferring to travel light, the centre offers equipment hire. This includes essential kit such as regulators, wetsuits, and fins.

Nitrox is available for use, allowing for more flexible dive planning on multi-dive days. This is a standard offering for those looking to optimise their decompression limits during recreational dives.

The reefs around Tioman are home to a diverse array of pelagic and reef species. You can regularly encounter various sharks, including Blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), whitetip sharks, and Nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum). Large predators like Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and giant barracuda often patrol the deeper sections of the reef.

In the mid-water and along the reef structures, you will find schools of Fusilier (Caesio), Snapper (Lutjanus), and Jack (Carangidae). The colourful reef landscape is populated by Butterflyfish (Chaetodon), Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and various species of Wrasse (Labridae).

Macro life enthusiasts will find plenty to observe on the seabed and tucked into the coral. Keep an eye out for Nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), Cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae). You may also spot Green moray eels (Gymnothorax funebris) or brown moray eels amongst the crevices, alongside various turtles and other reef inhabitants.
