Blue Element Freediving center

Located in the idyllic bay of Soufrière, Blue Element Freediving serves as a dedicated hub for freediving excellence in Dominica. The centre is positioned within the Soufrière/Scott’s Head Marine Reserve, providing immediate access to some of the island's most pristine underwater environments.

Whether you are looking to take your first breath-hold training session or are an elite athlete preparing for competition, the centre is designed to facilitate progression. The facility features a bespoke freediving platform situated just a short swim from the shore or a two-minute boat ride away.

The centre was established by high-level freedivers Jonathan Sunnex and Sofía Gómez Uribe, ensuring a foundation of professional expertise. The team consists of highly qualified instructors, including AIDA Instructor Trainers, PADI Instructor Trainers, and SSI Master Instructors.

Training is conducted in English, catering to an international community of divers and athletes. The instructors bring a deep understanding of both competitive disciplines and recreational freediving, offering coaching and specialised camps for all levels of experience.

Blue Element Freediving offers a comprehensive range of training through affiliations with AIDA, PADI, SSI, and CMAS. The curriculum covers everything from introductory freediving training to advanced coaching and specialised camps.

For those looking to enter the professional side of the industry, the centre provides high-level instruction, including AIDA Instructor Trainer and PADI Instructor Trainer programmes. The staff also includes SSI Master Instructors and EFR instructors, ensuring a complete educational ecosystem for breath-hold divers.

The marine reserve is a vibrant ecosystem where you can encounter various pelagics, including whales. The clear waters and protected nature of the site make it an excellent place to observe large marine life moving through the area.

In the shallower sections and around the reef, you will find a variety of tropical reef fish and colourful sponges. These provide a rich backdrop for observing the natural biodiversity of the Caribbean.

For those interested in macro life, the area hosts smaller creatures such as Seahorse (Hippocampus) and Frogfish (Antennariidae). These can be found amongst the reef structures, offering plenty for observant divers to discover.

The Soufriere/Scott’s Head Marine Reserve is characterised by very stable conditions. You can expect an absence of waves and a lack of significant currents, which creates a safe and controlled environment for both freediving and scuba diving.

These calm conditions remain consistent throughout the year, making the area accessible for training and competition regardless of the season.
