Nature Island Dive

Nature Island Dive is situated on the waterfront in Soufriere, directly opposite the jetty. This prime location puts you at the doorstep of the Soufriere Scotts Head Marine Reserve, a volcanic crater formed tens of thousands of years ago that now protects a vast array of marine life and underwater topography.

The centre has been operating in these waters since 1994, combining local expertise with a deep commitment to the environment. As the first PADI Eco Center in Dominica, their work extends well beyond recreational diving to include active reef monitoring and coral conservation.

The team at Nature Island Dive is deeply integrated into the local marine ecosystem. They are active participants in conservation through REEF surveys, lionfish control, and monitoring for coral tissue loss disease (SCTLD). This expertise means you are diving with instructors who understand the nuances of the local reef health.

They specialise in small-group diving and provide a personalised service often described as concierge-style. For those who prefer to travel light, the staff handles your kit for the duration of your stay, ensuring it is rinsed, dried, and ready on the boat for your next outing.

The centre is affiliated with both PADI and SSI, offering a comprehensive range of training from beginner to professional levels. You can start with your Open Water Diver or use an Open Water Referral Course to continue your training elsewhere.

For more experienced divers, the curriculum includes Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver Specialty, and Night / Limited Visibility Specialty. They also offer Rescue Diver, Perfect Buoyancy, Fish ID, and Underwater Photography & Video courses. Professional training is available through the Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and the SSI Instructor Training Course (IDC).

Full equipment hire is available on-site for those not travelling with their own rig. This includes regulators, BCDs, and fins, with wetsuit rental also provided. For night dives, torches are available to ensure you can explore the reef after dark.

The centre also features the Bottom Time Café, a convenient spot on-site for coffee, smoothies, or a lionfish sandwich between dives.

The marine reserve is home to a high density of tropical reef fish, moray eels, boxfish, and scorpionfish. You will also encounter spotted eagle rays, lobster, and various species of shrimp. Sea turtles are a regular presence around the reefs.

For those interested in macro life, the area is excellent for spotting seahorses (Hippocampus kuda) and frogfish (Antennarius). Small creatures, including various species of colorful sponges and corals, provide a vibrant backdrop for every dive.

Pelagics make occasional appearances in the area, and the volcanic structure of the bay supports a healthy population of reef-dwelling species such as moray eels and various tropical fish.

Diving is available during the day and at night, though night dives require a minimum of 4 to 6 divers to proceed. The centre is located within a protected marine reserve, though divers should always be prepared for the local conditions of the volcanic coastline.
