Bon Bagay Scuba

Located in Le Robert, Bon Bagay Scuba provides access to the Atlantic side of Martinique, a coastline that offers a much different character than the calmer Caribbean waters. This side of the island is known for its more dynamic marine environments, where the interaction between mangroves, seagrass meadows, and the open ocean creates a highly productive ecosystem.

The diving season for exploration runs from March to November. While the Atlantic conditions can be more unpredictable than the leeward coast, the rewards are often found in the abundance of large pelagics and the dramatic topography of the offshore drop-offs.

The centre is run by Olivier, a highly qualified professional with a diverse background. He is a PADI instructor, a Nitrox instructor, and a certified sea guide and skipper. His expertise extends into technical areas as a professional diver and visual inspection technician, ensuring a high level of operational competence.

In addition to standard recreational training, Olivier is a certified adaptive diving instructor (handi-plongée), making the sport accessible to divers with disabilities. The centre is affiliated with PADI, FFESSM, and CMAS, covering a broad range of international and local certification standards.

Bon Bagay Scuba offers a complete progression of training through PADI, FFESSM, and CMAS frameworks. Beginners can start with a Discovery Dive (Baptême) or a two-dive introductory course that includes pool sessions. The formal training ladder runs from Niveau 1 through to Niveau 3.

For more experienced divers, the centre provides Nitrox training to allow for more efficient nitrogen management. They also specialise in adaptive diving for divers with physical limitations.

Dives depart from Anse Spoutourne in La Trinité or the Ponton du Robert. You will head out on a traditional 7m saintoise, a local style of boat that has been reconfigured for diver comfort. The vessel is powered by a 150hp four-stroke Yamaha engine, providing reliable transit to the offshore sites.

The boat is designed for small groups, with a maximum capacity of 8 people, or 7 if you choose to privatise the trip. On board, you will find a protective roof for shade, storage chests, and a cooler. For full-day trips or privatised sessions, meals and drinks are provided.

The centre provides full kit hire for those who do not wish to bring their own. This includes the complete ensemble: a wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins, cylinder, BCD, and regulator.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time. The centre also handles professional underwater tasks such as hull cleaning and propeller replacement, reflecting the high level of technical equipment maintained on site.

The Atlantic side is a high-energy environment that attracts significant pelagic life. You can regularly encounter barracuda, Spanish mackerel, and Jack. During certain periods, the area becomes a focal point for larger predators, including nurse sharks, hammerhead sharks, and lemon sharks.

The reef and wall habitats are supported by nearby mangroves and seagrass nurseries, which sustain a healthy population of marine life. You will see various species moving between these habitats and the coral structures.

Macro life and smaller residents are abundant throughout the various reef flats and drop-offs, providing plenty of interest for those who prefer to look closely at the substrate.

Diving on the Atlantic coast is subject to weather conditions, which can make advanced planning for exploration dives difficult. The best window for exploration is between March and November.

Because of the open ocean exposure, the site conditions can change more rapidly than on the Caribbean side, requiring a professional approach to monitoring swell and local weather patterns.
