You have your own villa, a daily Villa Attendant and a front office that can help arrange practical extras, from taxis and car hire to restaurant bookings, tours and massages on your balcony.

The setting does much of the talking. The gardens sit beside a bird sanctuary, with mature trees, fruit trees and tropical planting around the villas, while every villa has a view towards the sea. English is the language spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal directly with the people arranging your stay, rather than relying on hopeful hand signals after a long day in the water.

This works particularly well if you want diving to fit into a wider Tobago holiday: family time, a beach, a bit of island exploring and somewhere to cook or sit outside when you cannot face another formal hotel routine.

Plantation Beach Villas sits directly on the golden sands of Stonehaven Bay, on Stonehaven Bay Road in Black Rock, Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago. You walk through the landscaped gardens to reach the beach, with the outdoor pool and beach pavilion close by. This is a genuine beachfront position, not a promise involving a road, a car park and a determined stride.

The property is hemmed in by a bird sanctuary and tropical forest, giving you greenery immediately around the villas. For a change of scenery, Plymouth Beach is about 1 km away, while Mount Irvine Bay Beach is around 1.5 km away by the local road network. Buccoo Beach is roughly 2 km away by car.

You can also reach nearby restaurants without turning the evening into an expedition. Waves Restaurant and Bar is about 300 m away, Edge of the Reef around 500 m, and The Pavilion Restaurant roughly 600 m. Pleasant Prospect, with a grocery shop, an ATM, bars and local eateries, is about a five-minute walk away; Mount Irvine and its golf course are around five minutes by car.

The sensible choice here is to think in terms of a whole villa, not a conventional hotel room. The villas have three bedrooms, three bathrooms and space for up to six guests, so you can spread out properly with family or friends instead of stacking dive bags beside the bed and calling it storage. Each villa is detached and includes living and dining areas, a fully equipped kitchen and a balcony, terrace or verandah facing the gardens or sea.

You can use the badminton equipment, table tennis, darts and board games, or arrange kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, fishing, cycling, walking tours and rainforest tours. Golf is available within about 3 km, while horse riding, mountain-bike tours and sports fishing can be arranged elsewhere on the island. Babysitting is also available, and children are welcome in the villas.

A.N.R. Robinson International Airport is about 5 miles away by road, with the drive taking around 20 minutes. An airport shuttle and local shuttle service are available through the property, and car hire can be arranged. Private parking is available on site, with no reservation needed, which is useful if you plan to explore Tobago beyond the beach and nearby restaurants.

Check-in starts from 14:00 and check-out is by 11:00. The minimum check-in age is 21, and guests under 18 can check in with a parent or official guardian. You need to provide photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the property asks you to share your expected arrival time in advance.

WiFi is available throughout the property. Daily housekeeping, laundry, luggage storage, concierge assistance and a tour desk cover the useful everyday details, while the front office can help organise taxis, restaurant reservations, island tours and other outings. Quiet hours run from 22:00 to 09:00, and parties or events are not allowed, so the evening has a defined end even if the rum disagrees.
