Dive Center KRK

Situated in the Kvarner Bay on the island of Krk, Dive Center KRK provides access to some of the most diverse underwater topography in the northern Adriatic. The centre operates from two distinct locations: the main base in Kornic, which sits directly on the water's edge, and the Dive Loft KRK in Vrbnik.

Whether you are looking to explore the island's famous caves, descend along dramatic vertical walls, or penetrate well-preserved wrecks, the centre is positioned to reach the best sites quickly. The proximity to Rijeka airport makes it an accessible hub for divers travelling from further afield.

As a PADI Five Star Dive Resort, the centre maintains high standards across its entire operation. The team is composed of experienced, multilingual instructors and divemasters who are equipped to lead both recreational and professional training programmes.

Beyond the water, the facilities at the Kornic base include a large 80 m² terrace overlooking the sea, a dedicated wet area for rinsing and hanging your kit, and secure lockers. The centre also provides accommodation options, including holiday houses and apartments in the Kornic area, and can assist with local bookings for hotels or campsites.

The training programme covers the full spectrum of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver or Scuba Diver courses, while those looking to progress can undertake the Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster programmes. The centre also offers the Instructor Development Course (IDC).

Specialty training is extensive, ranging from Peak Performance Buoyancy and Underwater Navigation to more technical subjects like Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Drift Diver, and Dry Suit diving. For those interested in photography, specific courses in underwater videography and photography are also available.

The fleet consists of three specialised vessels to suit different diving needs. The Sirena is an 18-metre boat designed for day trips, featuring a sun deck, toilets, and a dedicated diving platform. For longer excursions, the Sirena provides lunch on board.

The Marie is a 12-metre speedboat, ideal for reaching more distant sites quickly, while the Miki 1 is a 13-metre vessel. All boats are equipped to handle various dive profiles, including night dives, and Nitrox is available for use on board.

The centre maintains a modern inventory of Scubapro and Mares equipment, including 60 BCDs, 40 regulators, and a variety of wetsuits, including 7 mm options and specific sizes for women. For those who prefer to bring their own primary kit, a full range of rental items is available, including computers, torches, masks, fins, and boots.

A BAUER V20 compressor with 8 connections ensures a reliable supply of air. Nitrox is available on-site, with fills provided for both 40% and 100% concentrations. The centre also stocks a wide range of cylinders, including 7, 10, 12, and 15-litre volumes.

The marine life in the Kvarner Bay is remarkably diverse, particularly along the vertical walls and wreck sites. You will frequently encounter schools of fish and large gorgonians covering the rock faces. The reefs are home to various crustaceans, including crabs (Brachyura) and lobsters, which often hide in the crevices.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, from colourful nudibranchs and various species of sea anemones to seahorses and octopus. The sandy areas and reef flats are also excellent spots to look for small crustaceans and different types of crabs.

In the deeper waters and along the more significant wrecks, you can find larger predators such as Tuna (Thunnus), monkfish, and various species of scorpionfish. The presence of large gorgonians and sponges (Porifera) provides a complex habitat for a wide array of species, including eels and various types of fish.

The best time to dive in this region is generally between May and mid-July, or from mid-September to October. During these periods, the sea conditions are typically most favourable for boat diving.

While the area is known for its clear water, visibility can vary significantly depending on the season and local conditions, with some sites reaching up to 40 metres in optimal periods.
