Sunny Krk by Valamar is a three-star beachfront hotel for a straightforward island stay: sleep well, eat without making a project of it, and step outside when the sea is calling. The setting is practical rather than theatrical, with a garden, terrace and outdoor furniture giving you somewhere to sit when your legs have had enough of the day’s exertions.

If the view matters more than floor space, the Room for 2 Seaview puts the Adriatic into the choice. It is the one to consider when opening the curtains matters almost as much as opening the front door. For a couple travelling with children, or for a small group needing more room to spread out, the Junior Suite for 2+2 Seaside is the more sensible option.

The range also includes rooms arranged for an additional guest, using a sofa bed alongside the main sleeping arrangement. Private bathrooms, showers, towels, toiletries and hairdryers are part of the room facilities, although the bathroom arrangement varies between categories. Children of any age are welcome; cots can be requested for children aged up to two, while extra beds are not available.

For a morning when you would rather think about the sea than assemble a meal from whatever happens to be available, that is the useful detail.

Horse riding and tennis are available off site, while the beach gives you the simplest route to a change of pace.
