Samos Dive Center

Samos Dive Center has been a fixture of the local diving community since 2007. Based in the ancient port of Pythagorion, it is the oldest dive centre on the island, offering a stable and experienced foundation for both holiday divers and those pursuing professional qualifications.

The centre operates as a family-run business, focusing on small groups and a high standard of safety. They provide daily guided trips that allow you to explore the hidden marine environments of the Samos coastline, catering to both scuba divers and snorkellers.

The team consists of four professional instructors, ensuring that dive groups remain small and manageable. They maintain a ratio of a maximum of six divers per guide, which allows for individual attention and closer observation of the marine life.

Communication is easy for international visitors, as the staff is multilingual. In addition to English, the team speaks Dutch, French, German, Danish, and Greek, making it a comfortable environment for divers from across Europe.

As a top-ranked SSI centre, the training programme is extensive. You can begin with entry-level courses like Try Scuba Diving or the Basic Diver Adventure, moving through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

For those looking to advance their skills or career, the centre offers a deep catalogue of specialties. This includes Nitrox, Wreck Diving, Deep Diving, Navigation Diving, and even technical-leaning subjects like Decompression Diving. Professional training is also a core focus, with courses ranging from Divemaster and the Instructor Development Course (IDC) to Specialty Instructor seminars and Public Safety Diver training.

The centre operates two boats, including the Nireas, a fiberglass dive boat with a capacity for 12 passengers. When you are aboard the Nireas, you will find freshwater, fresh fruit, and a toilet on board to make the trips more comfortable.

For those looking for a more relaxed experience, there is also a dedicated snorkel boat that carries up to 10 people. The boats are used for daily guided two-dive trips and night dives, ensuring you can experience the Aegean under different light conditions.

A full range of diving equipment is available for hire, so you do not need to bring your own heavy kit if you prefer not to. All equipment is serviced by certified technicians and undergoes yearly checks by Bureau Veritas to maintain high safety standards.

The centre is equipped with oxygen and a first aid kit for safety. Their shop also stocks a variety of new and used diving accessories and equipment for those looking to upgrade their personal kit.

The underwater landscape around Samos is home to a variety of Mediterranean species. You will regularly encounter different types of octopus and cuttlefish amongst the rocks and seabed.

For those interested in smaller life forms, the area offers plenty of macro interest, including various species of nudibranch. These colourful molluscs are a highlight for divers who enjoy searching the reef for intricate details.

The local fish populations include a steady presence of typical Greek fish species that inhabit the rocky reefs and coastal waters.

The best time to visit the island for diving is between May and October. During these months, the water temperature typically ranges between 17°C and 25°C.
