Under Hundred

Located just a few metres from the beach of San Vito Lo Capo, Under Hundred is nestled under a pine grove that provides much-needed shade during the warmer months. The centre serves as a base for exploring the Mediterranean's rich underwater topography, from the shallow reef flats to the deeper walls of the Zingaro Reserve.

The centre operates with three daily departures, typically at 9:00, 11:00, and 15:30, allowing for flexibility in your diving schedule. Whether you are looking for a relaxed day of exploration or a technical deep dive, the setup is designed to facilitate a professional and organised experience.

The centre is managed by Marina and Roberto, who bring over 20 years of diving experience to the operation. Roberto has been a PADI instructor since 1998, ensuring a high standard of training and safety for all divers.

As a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort, the team is well-versed in a vast array of specialities and professional training. The atmosphere is professional yet convivial, focusing on making every dive an enjoyable and safe experience for both novices and seasoned divers.

The training programme is extensive, covering the full spectrum of PADI certifications. You can begin with Discover Scuba Diving or the Scuba Diver course, progressing through Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers courses in Deep Diver, Rescue Diver, and various specialties such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Enriched Air, and Night Diver. Technical training is also available, including Tec Deep, Sidemount Instructor, and TSA Trimix training.

Professional development is a core part of the centre's offering, with paths available for Divemaster, IDC Staff Instructor, and Master Scuba Diver Trainer. They also provide specialised instruction in underwater photography, equipment, and coral reef conservation.

The centre utilises gommoni (RIBs) to transport divers to the various sites around Capo S.Vito and the Zingaro Reserve. These boats allow for efficient access to the coastline, making it easy to reach the various caves and walls that define this stretch of Sicilian coast.

The centre provides a full range of rental equipment, including BCDs, regulators with octopus, 5mm wetsuits with hoods, masks, fins, boots, dive computers, and torches for night diving. The kit is maintained in excellent condition to ensure reliability.

On-site facilities include areas to rinse and dry your equipment, as well as storage options for overnight stays. Between dives, you can relax in the shade of the pine grove or use the provided hammocks.

The marine life in this area is diverse, with many species inhabiting the rocky walls and caves. You will frequently encounter octopuses, moray eels, and various crustaceans, including spiny lobster, crabs, and hermit crabs. The reefs are also home to colourful nudibranchs, seahorses, and trumpetfish.

In the rocky crevices and among the gorgonians, look for macro life such as Stenopus, Stenopus spinosus, and various types of shrimp like the red shrimp and Parapandoli. Scorpionfish and rascasses are often found waiting on the seabed for prey.

Pelagic and reef fish are also common, including sea bream, snappers, squid, and various species of daurade and vivaneaux. In the deeper sections or near wrecks, you may spot larger conger eels and murènes.

Diving in this region involves a variety of environments, from shallow plateaus to deep walls and cave systems. The sites range from 5 metres to 50 metres, requiring appropriate certification for the deeper wrecks like the Kent.

While the area offers many sheltered spots, divers should be aware of the different environments, such as the haloclines found in freshwater-fed caves like the Spring Water Cave, which can create a blurred visual effect.
