You stay in the village of Żebbuġ, at 29 Triq L-Innu Malti, rather than on Malta’s coast. The sea is therefore an outing, not something you reach by wandering downstairs in flip-flops. Rock Beach is about 3.9 miles away, while Balluta Bay Beach and St George’s Bay Beach are roughly 4.3 and 4.7 miles away respectively.

The location works well if you want to combine diving with Malta’s inland and historic side. Hagar Qim is about 2.8 miles away, Buskett Gardens about 2.6 miles, and the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum around 3.6 miles. Valletta’s Upper Barrakka Gardens are about 4.3 miles away, with the National Museum of Archaeology at roughly 4.4 miles.

Your nearest meal can be simpler. Lokomotif Kafe is about 0.3 miles away on foot, and St Philip Restaurant is roughly 0.35 miles away. For a drink, Levels Wine Bar is around 1 mile away by the property’s local-distance listing. Malta International Airport is about 3.3 miles away by road, so the journey is short even if your arrival luggage has acquired the usual mysterious extra weight.

For two people, the Superior Queen Room keeps things straightforward: one king-size bed, air conditioning, a minibar, WiFi and a desk. It is the sensible choice when you want a comfortable base rather than a room that tries to become the holiday. A private bathroom, towels, slippers, bathrobes, toiletries and a hairdryer cover the useful details after a day in salt water.

The studios make more sense when you are travelling as a family or simply prefer space around your bags. The Studio with Balcony can sleep up to four, with a king-size bed and either a sofa bed or additional single beds depending on the room. The Duplex Studio also sleeps up to four and uses two king-size beds in one configuration, or single beds alongside a king-size bed in another. Check the exact arrangement before booking; “studio” is doing several jobs here.

Some studio accommodation includes kitchen equipment such as a refrigerator, coffee machine, kettle, kitchenware and washing machine. Breakfast is included and gives you considerably more choice than the usual bowl of cereal and a lonely triangle of toast. Fresh pastries, local specialities and warm dishes make the morning useful before a day out.

Car hire is available, which may be useful for reaching the coast, historic sites and the different parts of the island without turning every outing into a timetable exercise.
