You are in central Doha, with air-conditioned rooms, an outdoor pool, a fitness centre and a wellness centre waiting when the day's plans are over. It is a practical city hotel rather than a beach address, which makes sense if you want museums, forts and the Corniche within reach.

The tone is straightforward and comfortable. Free Wi-Fi, room service, a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage remove some of the small irritations that become surprisingly tiresome when you are carrying wet kit, travel bags or simply the remains of a long day. Pearl Qatar is a 15-minute drive, while Katara Cultural Village is about 5 miles away. Hamad International Airport is 4 miles from the hotel, with a drive of around 7 minutes.

The choice is mainly about how you want to sleep and how much room you want around the bed. The Classic rooms work neatly for a couple or for two divers who prefer separate beds, while the Deluxe rooms give you more breathing space without turning the room into a meeting room. If you are travelling as a pair and value a little separation between sleeping, sorting papers and sitting down, the Business Suite is the sensible step up.

Every room combines classic and modern decoration with air conditioning, a 55-inch Smart TV, free Wi-Fi, a desk and an electric kettle.
