The Scuba Duka Diving Centre

Scuba Duka is a boutique dive centre situated at the Soul Breeze Beach Resort in Diani Beach, Kenya. Established in 2018, the centre has built a reputation for catering specifically to individual divers and small groups, avoiding the crowded feel of larger operations.

The location offers direct and easy access to the local coral reefs, providing a convenient base for those looking to explore the Kenyan coast. The centre focuses on personalised service, local marine knowledge, and a high standard of safety for all divers.

The centre is led by founder Ali, who brings over 25 years of experience to the operation. The team consists of 4 qualified instructors, ensuring that the focus remains on quality instruction and personalised attention for every diver.

As an SSI affiliated dive centre, the team is trained to deliver a wide range of certifications and specialties. The staff is known for their friendly approach and their ability to share detailed knowledge about the local marine ecology.

The centre offers a complete range of SSI training, starting from the Try Scuba programme for beginners through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Diver certifications.

For more experienced divers, the curriculum includes the SSI Stress & Rescue course, Dive Guide, and Divemaster programmes. There are also several specialised SSI courses available, such as Perfect Buoyancy, Marine Ecology, Shark Ecology, and Waves, Tides and Currents.

The centre operates two boats to transport divers to the local sites. The Nia is a smaller vessel with a capacity for 8 people, while the Tai is a larger boat capable of carrying 16 divers.

For those on full-day dive packages, the boats provide water, snacks, and fresh fruit juice. Those opting for boat hire can also access drinking water on board.

Scuba Duka provides full equipment hire, which is included in the cost of all courses and diving trips. This means you do not need to bring your own kit to enjoy the local reefs.

Beyond hire, the centre also offers equipment maintenance and repair services on-site, making it a practical choice for divers travelling with their own regulators, BCDs, or other essential kit.

The reefs around Diani are home to a diverse array of large marine life. You will regularly encounter sea turtles, reef sharks, and whitetip reef sharks, alongside various species of moray eels and ribbon eels. Larger pelagic fish, including tuna and barracuda, are often seen in the area.

In the sandy areas and reef flats, look for southern stingrays, octopuses, and squid. Lobsters and various species of triggerfish are also common residents of the coral structures.

For those interested in macro life, the area offers plenty of variety, including nudibranchs and various small crustaceans. The reef is also populated by colourful fish such as sweetlips and a wide variety of reef fish.

Between October and March, keep a lookout for whale sharks passing through the region.

The area is characterised by warm waters and clear visibility, making it a reliable destination for year-round diving. The local topography includes various reef flats and sloping reefs that allow for different types of diving experiences.

Some sites, such as Mwanamoji, are specifically suited for drift diving, suggesting that divers should be comfortable managing light to moderate currents.
