Hotel da Bahia by Wish is a large resort in Salvador, built for travellers who want the city within reach without giving up a proper place to switch off. You get direct access to a 200-metre white-sand beach, an outdoor pool with an integrated bar, a spa and two restaurants. That is a useful combination when your day has involved salt, sun and rather more effort than it looked like on the dive plan.

English, French, Spanish and Portuguese are spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practicalities in English from arrival onwards. The hotel also works for couples who want a straightforward base for Salvador, as well as families looking for a resort with a kids’ club, children’s pool and organised activities. It is a substantial property, with 223 rooms, rather than a small guesthouse where everyone knows what you had for breakfast.

You are in Salvador, Brazil, in a historic building opposite Campo Grande Square. The hotel sits on the seafront and offers direct access to a white-sand beach, with loungers, parasols, a beach pavilion and Bar da Praia ready for the part of the day when walking any further feels unnecessary. MAM Beach is about 0.5 miles away, while Porto da Barra is about 1.4 miles away.

The city’s sights are close enough to make leaving the resort worthwhile. The Museum of Modern Art and Solar da Unhao are each about 0.6 miles away, the Lacerda Elevator is about 1.1 miles away, and Pelourinho is about 1.3 miles away. Barra’s Lighthouse is about 1.7 miles away. For a meal outside the hotel, Cravo e Canela and Restaurante Passeio da Vitória are about 50 metres away, with Mestre roughly 300 metres away.

The listed triple rooms are also capped at two guests, so check the selected room carefully rather than trusting the word “triple” to do all the work.

Bathrooms have a shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. Some room categories include a dressing room, and the upper floors are reached by lift. Family rooms are available, but the extra-bed arrangements depend on the room selected; children of any age are welcome, with extra beds available for children up to 12 on request. There are no cots.

The all-inclusive arrangement gives you two hotel restaurants to work with. Restaurante da Bahia handles breakfast, lunch and dinner in an air-conditioned indoor setting, with an international menu and a relaxed dress code. Breakfast is a buffet from 7:00, with fresh fruit, breads and cold meats among the choices. Lunch runs from 12:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 19:00 to 22:30.

For seafood, Restaurante de Frutos do Mar moves the meal onto a terrace and serves lunch and dinner, also from 12:30 to 15:00 and 19:00 to 22:30. Vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are available, which is more useful than a grand promise about catering for everyone. Room service runs around the clock, although the practical details of the all-inclusive arrangement are worth checking for the exact room booking.

There are two named bars. Bar da Praia is the cocktail stop by the sand, while Bar da Piscina keeps refreshments within reach of the water. A snack bar, on-site coffee house and minibar add further options, but no continuous-snacking service or late dinner is listed, so plan around the restaurant hours rather than expecting the kitchen to operate like a 24-hour dive boat.

The main pool is outdoors and has a swim-up bar, sun loungers, umbrellas and pool towels. It is not adults-only and it is not heated, but it gives you an easy alternative to the beach when you want water without sand. The hotel garden and sun terrace add places to sit, and the direct beach access makes a short swim or a quiet spell under an umbrella uncomplicated.

Spa da Bahia covers 200 square metres and offers massages, facials, a sauna and a jacuzzi, along with a lounge and wellness facilities. Couples can book a couples massage; there are also head, neck, back, foot and full-body treatments. A fitness centre and yoga classes are available if your idea of recovery involves moving deliberately rather than remaining horizontal.

Away from the water and wellness areas, the hotel has an art gallery with 350 works by renowned artists, temporary exhibitions, live music, evening entertainment and regular themed evenings. You can also book cooking classes, cultural excursions, visits around Salvador and trips to the islands. Kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, boat excursions and equipment hire are available for days when you want something active but not another full dive schedule. Families get a kids’ club for ages 4 to 12, children’s activities, babysitting, a children’s pool and a children’s menu.

Salvador International Airport is about 15 miles away by road. An airport shuttle is available to arrange with the hotel, and car hire is also offered. The hotel has private parking with valet service, free WiFi throughout, luggage storage, a concierge, a reception open around the clock and a safe at reception. A doctor can be requested, and laundry and dry-cleaning services are available when salty kit and travel clothes have started to form their own ecosystem.

Check-in starts at 14:00 and check-out runs from 08:00 to 12:00. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested, subject to availability.
