Montezuma Crew

Montezuma Crew is located in the village of Montezuma, Costa Rica, serving the Central Pacific coast. The centre focuses on providing a personalised experience for divers, moving away from large group dynamics to focus on smaller, more intimate trips to the surrounding waters.

Their operations primarily target the areas around Isla Tortuga and Cabuya. Whether you are looking to complete your first certification or exploring the local volcanic walls and canyons, the centre provides the technical support and local knowledge required for the region.

The team is composed of highly qualified professionals, including Miki, a CMAS and HSA instructor, David, a CMAS Dive Master, and Chema, a professional captain with experience in sport fishing. This combination of diving expertise and maritime skill ensures that both the underwater instruction and the boat handling are managed to a high standard.

They operate with a strict diver-to-guide ratio of two divers per guide. This small-group approach allows for a high level of supervision and a more flexible pace during your dives.

The centre is affiliated with CMAS and provides instruction in both Spanish and English, making it accessible for international divers visiting the Costa Rican coast.

Montezuma Crew provides training through the CMAS system. They offer the CMAS 1* Primera Estrella (Open Water Diver) course for those beginning their diving journey, as well as introductory 'Bautizo de Buceo' sessions for non-divers.

They also offer specialised private courses for two people, which can be combined with local accommodation for a more immersive training experience.

The centre operates a 32ft boat equipped with a new outboard motor for reliable transit to the dive sites. The vessel is designed for small groups, typically accommodating 2 to 3 friends or families at a time, which allows for a private or semi-private atmosphere on the water.

During the trips, refreshments are provided on board, including tropical fruit, natural juices, cold tea, water, and pizza. For those looking for a more relaxed experience, beer is also available during the excursion.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for divers who do not wish to travel with their own kit. This includes all the essential components required for a complete setup.

For those staying longer, the centre offers private cabin accommodation which includes a swimming pool, a large private terrace, and a ranch-style kitchen. This allows you to manage your own gear and relax in a natural setting just a short drive from the village.

The local waters are home to a variety of pelagics and reef fish. You can regularly encounter Spotted Jacks, Manta rays, and Eagle rays, particularly when drifting along the volcanic walls. Whitetip reef sharks are also a common sight in the shallower reef areas.

Tropical fish populations are abundant, especially around the canyons and coral structures of the Acuario site. Depending on the time of year, you may also see dolphins and turtles passing through the area.

Seasonal visitors include Humpback whales, which can be spotted according to the migratory patterns of the region.

The dive sites around Isla Tortuga feature varying conditions, including moderate currents during drift dives along the volcanic walls. The depth of the sites varies from shallow reef flats to deeper canyon sections.

Navigation often involves following currents or exploring swim-throughs and caves, particularly at sites like La Cueva.
