Drake Bay Diving

Drake Bay Diving serves as a gateway to the marine biodiversity of the Osa Peninsula. Situated in Drake Bay, the centre is positioned to take you directly to the Caño Island National Park and Marine Biological Reserve, a significant marine protected area located approximately 20 km west of the coast.

The centre has been operating in the region for over five years, building a reputation through a focus on safety and technical proficiency. They employ a team of certified instructors and guides dedicated to helping divers build confidence in the water, from those taking their first breaths underwater to advanced divers looking to refine their skills.

As a PADI affiliated centre, they provide a structured environment for both recreational exploration and professional development. Their approach is geared towards providing personalised service, ensuring that every diver, regardless of their experience level, receives the necessary attention to navigate the local reefs and rocky formations safely.

A full spectrum of PADI training is available on-site. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or work through the Open Water Diver certification. The curriculum extends to more advanced levels, including Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and the professional Divemaster programme.

Specialised training is also offered to enhance dive profiles and safety. This includes the PADI Nitrox certification and Emergency First Response (EFR) training. For those looking to specialise, the centre provides the necessary instruction to progress through the PADI training ladder.

The centre provides full equipment hire for divers who prefer not to carry their own kit. They utilise SCUBAPRO equipment throughout their rental fleet to ensure reliability and performance in the field.

For those looking to extend their bottom time, Nitrox is available on-site. The centre was the first in Drake Bay to introduce Nitrox to the local diving community, offering both the gas for dives and the necessary certification courses.

The marine life at Caño Island is defined by large pelagic species and vibrant reef communities. You can expect to encounter whitetip sharks, sea turtles, and various rays. During certain times of the year, manta rays are also present in the area.

Large schools of tropical fish move through the reefs, creating a constant sense of motion. The rocky formations and coral habitats support a high density of life, making every dive an opportunity to see diverse species in their natural environment.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are also a key part of the ecosystem. The complex structures of the reef provide shelter for various crustaceans and smaller reef dwellers that move amongst the corals and sponges.
