Oceans Unlimited

Located in the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Oceans Unlimited has been operating since 2009. This PADI 5 Star IDC centre serves as a hub for both recreational and technical divers looking to explore the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

The centre operates with a strong focus on marine conservation, holding both Green Fins membership and PADI ECO Dive Center certification. This commitment extends to their practical work, including active involvement in coral restoration projects.

The team is led by Georgia King, a PADI Platinum Course Director, and includes experienced professionals such as Logan McSherry, the lead instructor, and Gareth Naylor, who focuses on marine conservation. The crew is rounded out by Wenda Ulate in front-office management, Captain and Instructor Jimmy Mora, and Divemaster Nashira.

Instruction is provided in both English and Spanish, ensuring clear communication for international divers. The centre’s professional structure supports a wide range of training, from entry-level Discover Scuba Diving to advanced professional programmes.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the full spectrum of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or Open Water Diver, progressing through Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver.

For those pursuing a professional career, the centre offers Divemaster training and the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). They also provide specialised training including PADI Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Underwater Navigator, and Self Reliant Diver.

Technical diving and specialised skills are also core components of their curriculum, including Nitrox, Gas Blender, Dive Equipment Management, and various Tec Diving courses.

Daily excursions and personalised trips depart from the marina on a 36-foot semi-rigid boat. The vessel is equipped with an easy-to-use ladder for safe entries and exits, making it suitable for various diver levels.

Safety is a priority on board, with the boat carrying oxygen, radios, and GPS. Nitrox is available for use during trips, allowing for extended bottom times on many of the local dives.

The shore-based facilities include a fully equipped boutique and a climate-controlled classroom for theory work. For those needing to rent kit, the centre provides high-quality equipment that is regularly maintained by factory-trained technicians.

Air is supplied by two compressors, a 17cfm and a 10cfm unit, with 4000 cubic feet of storage capacity. All air fills are tested on a quarterly basis to ensure reliability and safety.

The local waters are home to a variety of tropical fish and diverse reef life. You can regularly observe sea turtles navigating the reefs and sandy areas.
