The hotel suits travellers who prefer a town setting to an isolated resort. You can have breakfast overlooking the Lima River, walk into the centre for dinner, or return to the pool and let the legs remember that they have been working. Families are catered for too, with family rooms, a children's pool and a playground.

You are in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, within the city's park and around 0.4 miles from the centre. Viana do Castelo railway station is about 0.9 miles away on foot, while the Santa Luzia lift is around 1.2 miles away. Several historic places, including Igreja de Sao Bento, the main church and Capela das Malheiras, are within roughly a mile.

The hotel is not on the beach, so plan your shore time accordingly. Cabedelo Beach is about 3 miles away by car, with North Beach around 2.6 miles away and Coral Beach around 3.2 miles away. Cabedelo is a sandy beach suited to surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing; the hotel is also around 36 miles by car from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport near Porto.

The rooms were renovated in 2018 and come with air conditioning, a private bathroom, satellite television, bed linen and a wardrobe. That gives you the useful basics after a day outdoors: cool air when the Portuguese heat has followed you back indoors, a proper shower, and somewhere to put the kit that did not quite make it into the wardrobe. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.

For two, the Double Room with River View is the obvious choice if the view matters more than extra floor space. A balcony is available in a separate double or twin category, while the Deluxe Double Room adds a spa bath for the evening when a standard shower feels a little too efficient. Families can choose between a room with bunk beds, a suite with five single beds, or an apartment combining a super-king bed with bunk beds.

The apartment categories make more sense when you want sleeping areas that work for both adults and children, rather than simply adding bodies to one room. One apartment has a pool view and a private bathroom, while the other has a separate bedroom. There are also accessible units with wheelchair access, lowered bathroom sinks, raised toilets and grab rails.

Breakfast is served each morning in the renovated panoramic room, with views towards the Lima River. The buffet covers continental, Italian, gluten-free and American options, so you can keep it simple or build a more substantial start before heading out. Breakfast in the room is also available when the idea of making conversation before coffee is asking too much.

There is a bar at the hotel, along with room service available around the clock. The food offer is otherwise centred on breakfast rather than a full restaurant programme, which leaves the evening open to the town: traditional Portuguese restaurants are around a ten-minute walk away, with named restaurants such as Tasquinha da Trincheira and Restaurante Don Prior closer by. A café and several bars are also within walking distance, should the post-dinner stroll require a second stop.

The main recovery tool is the outdoor pool, which is more than 25 metres long. There is also a children's pool, sun loungers, umbrellas, outdoor furniture and a sun terrace, so you can choose between a few lengths and the traditional post-water horizontal position. Bicycle rental is offered at the hotel, and windsurfing and kitesurfing are among the nearby water activities, with equipment rental available. Tennis is possible at an off-site court. In other words, you can remain active without turning every afternoon into another expedition.

Check-in starts from 15:00 and check-out runs until 12:00, with a 24-hour reception, express check-in and check-out, luggage storage, lockers, concierge service and a tour desk. Car hire is available, and private parking is on site with spaces allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. An electric vehicle charging station is also available.

The hotel is around 36 miles by car from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, with Braga Airport about 26 miles away and Vigo Airport around 48 miles away. Cabedelo Beach is roughly a seven-minute drive according to the local road journey information, while the railway station is about a sixteen-minute walk.

Children of any age are welcome. Cots are available for younger children, while extra beds are not available. The minimum age for check-in is 18, pets are not allowed, and laundry and ironing services are available.
