The Grove

The Grove is an aparthotel for divers who like their accommodation to do more than provide a bed and a towel. You get a modern apartment, somewhere to sit, a balcony, air conditioning and a kitchen that can handle more than making tea. After a day in the water, that matters: you can cool down, stretch out and decide whether dinner is going to be restaurant food or something assembled at home.

The mood is more self-contained than full-service hotel formal. Private entrances, soundproofing, garden views and outdoor space give the apartments a residential feel, while the restaurant, bar, pools and wellness facilities keep the evening from turning into a logistics exercise. The Grove suits couples particularly well, with larger apartments available when family or friends are joining the trip.

You are in Upper Land on Grand Cayman, at 1358 West Bay Road, with Seven Mile Beach just across the street. The walk to the sand is about 150 metres, so your swimwear and beach towel do not need a taxi. The beach itself is white sand, with loungers, parasols and showers available.

Owen Roberts International Airport is roughly 4.5 miles away by road. Barkers National Park Entrance is about 1.5 miles away, while Jacksons Pond is around 2.5 miles from the property. For coffee beyond the resort, Paperman's Coffee House is about 0.9 miles away on foot; the wider area is easier to explore by car, and car hire is available.

The position gives you a beach base without putting you in an isolated corner of the island. Seven Mile Beach is the main geographical fact here: step outside for the sea, then return to an apartment with enough room to behave like a person rather than a damp piece of dive kit.

The one-bedroom apartment is the natural choice for two divers travelling as a couple. The garden view keeps the setting straightforward, while the private balcony gives you somewhere to sit with a coffee, a cold drink or the day's completely unnecessary debate about who saw the larger turtle. The separate seating and dining areas make the apartment feel like a place to stay in, not merely sleep in.

For four guests, the two-bedroom apartment gives everyone more elbow room and two bathrooms. That is the practical upgrade when two pairs are sharing, particularly when the day begins early and nobody wants to queue for the shower. Both apartment sizes come with a fully equipped kitchen, including an oven, hob, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle and toaster.

Air conditioning is useful after heat, salt and a long surface interval. A ceiling fan adds another way to keep the room comfortable, while soundproofing should help make the night less vulnerable to corridor noise. Washing machines and tumble dryers deal with ordinary holiday laundry, and the private bathroom includes a shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. WiFi is available throughout, with a flat-screen television and streaming service for the evening when the sofa wins.

Dinner is covered by three on-site restaurants, each taking a different route. Mykonos Steak Club serves Mediterranean-style meat and seafood in the evening, with a wine and champagne selection described as the largest 100-point collection in the region. Mario’s also opens for dinner, working with international chefs on a changing five-course menu built around farm-to-table cooking.

Island Naturals is the more flexible option, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. It combines healthy choices with a setting suited to coffee or cocktails, which is useful when one diver wants food immediately and the other is still trying to remember where the sunglasses went. Room service is available, and the apartments also make self-catering realistic rather than decorative.

There is one bar, Door No. 4, centred on cocktails and tropical drinks made with local ingredients. Live music is also part of the evening offer, so you can choose between a quiet drink, dinner at home or a proper night out without leaving the property.

Two pools give you a choice of pace. The private residences have infinity plunge pools, while the elevated rooftop pool offers a resort-style setting overlooking the island surroundings and includes a pool bar. Sun loungers and parasols are available, giving you the classic post-dive option of doing very little with some commitment.

The wellness side includes spa facilities, massages and facial treatments, plus a sauna. The Rec Room is a 15,000-square-foot fitness studio, and yoga classes are available. None of this requires you to turn the holiday into a personal improvement project; it is simply there when your legs need movement but your enthusiasm for another excursion has gone missing.

Away from the pools, the property offers tennis, golf, bicycle hire and visits to temporary art galleries. Cultural tours, cooking classes, themed dinner nights, happy hour and bike tours are also available. The beach across the road adds the simplest alternative of all: walk over, find a lounger and let the island do the entertaining.

Check-in runs from 4pm to 8pm, and you need to tell the property your expected arrival time. Check-out is from 7am to 11am, which works for an early airport departure but gives you a narrow arrival window if your flight lands late. There is no age requirement for check-in.

An airport shuttle is available, and the property also offers a general shuttle service, car hire and bicycle rental. Arrange the airport transfer with the hotel before travelling. Owen Roberts International Airport is about 4.5 miles away by road, so the transfer is short in island terms, although arrival planning still matters because check-in finishes at 8pm.

Free private parking is available on site without reservation. Cash is not accepted, smoking is not allowed, parties and events are not permitted, and pets are not allowed. Luggage storage, a tour desk, concierge service, private or express check-in and check-out, and a 24-hour front desk are available. Children of any age are welcome, but cots and extra beds are not available.

The property places you beside Seven Mile Beach, but no environmental certification or specific sustainability programme is provided here. The useful practical point is that the beach remains part of the daily routine without requiring a drive: you can walk across the road, swim, and return to the apartment.
