Fyremi - Les Aquanautes

Located at the Marina du Marin, FYREMI - Les Aquanautes focuses entirely on the world of snorkeling. Rather than offering scuba diving or general sea excursions, the centre is dedicated to guided snorkel trips across the coral reefs of southern Martinique.

It is an ideal choice for those looking to observe the island's marine life in a calm, controlled environment. The excursions are designed to be accessible to everyone, from complete beginners to more confident swimmers, with a strong emphasis on marine conservation and biological discovery.

The centre is led by Stéphane, a DEJEPS qualified dive instructor with 20 years of experience in Martinique. His deep background in marine biology ensures that every trip is more than just a swim; it is an opportunity to understand the ecosystem you are observing.

While the centre operates in French, the service is geared towards international visitors. The focus remains on small groups to allow for meaningful interaction with the guide and a closer look at the reef life.

The centre's primary focus is on guided snorkeling excursions and 'randonnée palmée' (finning hikes). They offer structured guided outings for adults and children, as well as private sessions for groups of up to 13 people. They also host social 'apéro' snorkel sessions at sunset for those looking for a more relaxed experience.

The centre operates a single, purpose-built vessel designed specifically for snorkeling activities. Launched in 2021, the boat is unsinkable and prioritised for passenger comfort. It features a large canopy to provide shade and a dedicated diving ladder to make entering and exiting the water easy.

Accessibility is a key feature of the vessel, which is equipped with a gangway to assist people with reduced mobility, including those in wheelchairs. On board, you can enjoy local juices, snacks, and various refreshments, including local punch, as you transit to the reef sites.

For those who do not wish to bring their own kit, the centre provides full snorkeling equipment hire, including masks, snorkels, fins, and buoyancy aids.

All trips depart from Ponton 6 at the Marina du Marin, with a scheduled meeting time of 08:45.

The reefs are characterised by a high density of coral and a diverse array of fish species. You will find a rich landscape of hard and soft corals that provide the essential structure for the local marine community.

Fish life is abundant throughout the selected sites, with various reef fish darting amongst the coral heads. The calm waters allow for easy observation of these species as they navigate the reef flat.

The sites selected for these excursions are known for being calm, with an absence of significant currents. This makes them particularly suitable for snorkellers who prefer stable water conditions.

Swell is generally minimal at these locations, ensuring that the surface remains relatively still for easier observation and more comfortable boat transfers.
