FlyingFish Scuba School has been operating in Goa since 2016, establishing itself as a key provider of diving experiences in the region. As an official partner of Goa Tourism (GTDC), the centre operates out of the Novotel Resort & Spa in Candolim, making it easily accessible from major hubs like Calangute, Baga, and Panjim.

The centre is primarily known for its approach to dive durations. While many local operators offer shorter windows, FlyingFish focuses on 40-minute dives around Grand Island, allowing more time to explore the reef structures and resident marine life.

The team consists of four qualified instructors who bring a wealth of experience to the water, having recorded over 10,000 dives worldwide. They cater to a broad spectrum of divers, from those taking their very first breaths underwater to experienced professionals seeking advanced certifications.

For beginner divers and those undertaking their first open water course, the centre maintains a 1:1 instructor-to-diver ratio to ensure close supervision and confidence building. The staff is also deeply involved in marine conservation through the SSI Blue Oceans programme, frequently organising reef clean-up days.

Training is available through both SSI and PADI, covering the entire progression from entry-level to professional grades. Beginners can start with the SSI Try Scuba experience or work through the Open Water Diver and Scuba Diver courses. For those looking to advance, the centre offers Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster programmes.

Specialist training is a core part of the curriculum, with courses available in Perfect Buoyancy, Navigation, Wreck Diving, and Deep Diving. Divers can also refine their skills through specific modules such as Waves, Tides & Currents, Marine Ecology, and Search & Recovery. For those interested in the technical side of the hobby, underwater photo and video courses are also on offer.

Departures for the Grand Island sites take place from Candolim. The centre provides boat transfers for its diving packages, ensuring you are moved efficiently from the resort area to the dive sites.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, including high-quality Scubapro equipment that is regularly maintained. This allows divers to turn up with just their personal items if they do not wish to carry their own regulator, BCD, or wetsuit.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their no-decompression limits. Safety is supported by on-site oxygen protocols to ensure all diving activities meet strict professional standards.

The reefs around Grand Island are vibrant, featuring a variety of parrotfishes, angelfish, and butterflyfishes navigating through coral gardens. You will frequently encounter larger residents such as groupers, snappers, and great barracuda patrolling the areas.

For those with an eye for detail, the shallower bays and reef flats host a wealth of macro life. Nudibranchs, seahorses, and various species of pipefish, including the ornate ghost pipefish, can be found amongst the reef structure.

Larger animals also frequent these waters, including moray eels and stingrays. While not guaranteed, hawksbill turtles are seen occasionally by divers in the area.

The best period for diving in this region is from October to May. Divers seeking the best visibility should aim for the months of November to February, while the clearest water is typically found during February and March.

Conditions at the sites vary from the calm, current-free waters of Shelter Cove to the more active, current-driven environment of the Sail Rock pinnacle.
