Ilot Bleu

You come here for the combination of sea air, self-catering space and a beach at the front door. Îlot Bleu is a small family aparthotel with 11 units, suited to couples who want an ocean view and to families who would rather have somewhere to spread out than a standard hotel room.

The mood is informal and practical. You have a terrace or balcony, a heated outdoor pool and a kitchenette, so the day does not need to run to someone else's timetable. The property presents itself in French online, with a distinctly local Réunion setting rather than a chain-hotel formula.

There is also a separate villa with its own pool and private parking. For a couple, the smaller sea-facing accommodation keeps the ocean close; for a family or a group, the villa gives you room to live rather than merely sleep.

You can walk to several restaurants close to the property: Le Boucan Canot is about 250 m away, Léden about 250 m, and Bistrot de Pépé Gentil about 250 m. The useful distinction is simple: meals out are nearby, but you are not stranded in an isolated resort compound.

For a change of scenery, Eden Garden is around 3.3 miles away and Etang Saint-Paul Nature Reserve about 5 miles away. Roland Garros Airport is roughly 25 miles by road, while Pierrefonds Airport is about 29 miles away.

The accommodation works best when you choose it for the way you plan to use the room. An ocean-view studio suits a couple who wants the sea on the balcony and a compact base between beach time and island outings. Garden-view accommodation is the quieter-looking choice on paper, while the suite with hot tub is aimed squarely at a couple who wants something more private at the end of the day.

Every unit has air conditioning, WiFi, a private bathroom and a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, hob, coffee machine, kettle and kitchenware. That means cold drinks when you come back hot and tired, and the option of keeping dinner simple instead of going out in damp hair and a forgiving state of mind. A dining area, desk, wardrobe and flat-screen TV cover the less glamorous but genuinely useful parts of a stay.

The independent villa is the one to consider when privacy, space and a private pool matter more than being close to the shared areas.
