Mirko Diving Center

Mirko Diving Center is situated in Barbat on the island of Rab, Croatia. Founded in 1993 by Mirko and Arijan Žigo, the centre is a family-run operation built on over two decades of recreational diving experience. It remains open 365 days a year, providing a consistent presence for divers visiting the region.

The local underwater topography is defined by its proximity to the coastline, offering a variety of environments within easy reach of the boats. You will find a mix of fissures, caves, and wrecks, with depths transitioning from a shallow 3 metres to a range of 30 to 50 metres.

The centre is operated by the Žigo family, bringing a long-standing personal involvement to the daily operations. This family-led approach is a core part of the centre's identity, having been established by father and son.

Communication is straightforward for international divers, as the team is proficient in English, German, and Italian. This ensures that briefings and instruction are clear, regardless of your native language.

The centre is equipped to handle divers of all levels, from those looking to take their first breaths underwater to more advanced divers seeking to explore deeper environments. The variety of local sites, from shallow reef flats to deeper wrecks, supports a wide range of training needs.

The centre operates two boats to transport divers to the local sites. These vessels are well-equipped to handle the daily requirements of the diving programme.

The shore-based facilities include on-site accommodation in the form of private apartments, allowing you to stay directly at the centre. For safety, the centre is equipped with a DAN oxygen kit and satellite navigation.

Onboard the vessels, you will find amenities including a kitchen, toilets, and freshwater access to help rinse off after your dives.

The marine life around Rab is diverse, with a variety of fish, crabs, and octopus inhabiting the rocky structures and crevices. You will find a healthy presence of corals and various molluscs throughout the local sites.

For those interested in macro life, the fissures and cracks in the seabed offer excellent opportunities to observe crabs and octopus in their natural habitats.

The diving conditions around Rab are generally characterised by calm seas. Because the dive sites are located close to the coast, you can expect minimal marine currents, making it a reliable area for comfortable diving.
