Set on a small peninsula with the sea on three sides, Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa gives you a coastal base in Cyprus where the horizon does some of the evening work.

The invitation

English is spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practicalities of your stay without resorting to underwater hand signals. Thalassa Boutique Hotel & Spa is an adults-only resort for guests aged 16 and over, with the emphasis on sea views, proper meals, and time to slow down between outings.

The setting is built for a stay that does not need constant organising. There is a spa, a gym, a garden, a terrace, a library and places to sit with a drink or a book. You can also arrange excursions through the concierge, then return to the same stretch of coast rather than changing base every evening.

For a diver travelling with a non-diving partner, that matters. One of you can spend the day underwater while the other has access to the pool, spa, tennis, golf, cultural excursions and the seafront.

The point on the map

The hotel is in Peyia, Cyprus, in the Coral Bay area. It occupies a small peninsula roughly 500 metres long and 200 metres wide, adjoining the Akamas peninsula and surrounded by the sea on three sides. This is a genuine seafront position, not a hotel that requires a taxi before you see any water.

Peyia town centre is 3 km away, while Paphos is around 15 minutes away by car. Coral Bay Beach and Hakuna Matata Beach are among the nearby beaches, and the hotel also has access to a public beach. The setting gives you coast and open views first, with town services still within reach.

Paphos International Airport is around 35 minutes away. The peninsula location is particularly useful if you want sea air and a coastal outlook rather than a town-centre address, although a car or arranged transfer will make exploring the wider area easier.

The rooms, and the nights

The room choice is unusually broad, but the useful distinction is not the grand label attached to the door. Choose according to what you want to see when you pull back the curtains: standard rooms cover the straightforward stay, while sea-view and water-view options make the coastline part of the room rather than something reserved for the restaurant terrace.

For two people, a double room with a sea view or balcony is the sensible direction if the view matters. Twin-bed options also exist for dive buddies who have travelled together but do not intend to share a mattress. Travelling alone, you can choose a single room or single suite; for three or four guests, triple and quadruple rooms and suites are available, with two-bedroom suites offering a more workable arrangement for a group.

The better-equipped Classic rooms and suites include air conditioning, soundproofing, blackout blinds, a mini-bar, safe, Wi-Fi, television, tea and coffee facilities, bathrobes and slippers. Suites also bring a balcony and a view in the relevant categories. Private bathrooms run across the room range, and the practical touches are there for the return from a long day: a cool room, somewhere to keep drinks, blackout blinds when sleep wins over the morning, and a bathroom that is yours alone.

The taste of the place

Ambrosia is the main restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner on its terrace. The food is Mediterranean with Cypriot touches, served as buffets, and the sea horizon and lagoon pool provide the view. Breakfast is included in the hotel’s stated meal plan and is served as a buffet from 07:10.

For dinner, Psari takes a different route. Set at the edge of a cliff overlooking the bay, it focuses on seafood and opens in the evening from 19:00 to 22:00. The setting shifts from panoramic Mediterranean views by day to a more romantic terrace after dark. Smart casual attire applies at Ambrosia, with elegant smart casual dress for Psari.

There are two bars, each with a clear job. Ippokambos Beach Bar handles cocktails, drinks and snacks by the cliff and beach area, while Captain’s Lobby Bar is the place for whiskies, cognacs, rums and champagnes. Room service runs from 07:00 to 23:00, and the hotel also has a café and snack bar for the occasions when a full meal is more ambition than appetite.

Do something, or do nothing

The Anagenisis Spa is the obvious answer when your muscles have had enough of carrying you around. Its treatments include massage, facials, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, mud baths and body wraps. It is a proper menu of ways to become less creaky, rather than a single treatment room with a scented candle doing all the work.

There is also an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a spa bath and pool equipment, plus a gym and fitness equipment. A terrace, sun terrace, garden and outdoor furniture give you room to sit out, while the library and billiards offer quieter alternatives when the midday heat or general human contact becomes excessive.

For a more active day away from the water, tennis, golf, cycling, hiking, fishing, darts and water-sports equipment are available. The concierge can help arrange village visits, boat excursions and trips to archaeological sites. The hotel also has a public beach nearby, so your non-diving companion can build a day around the coast without needing to share your dive schedule.

What to know before booking

The reception is open around the clock. Check-in runs from 14:00 to midnight, with check-out by 12:00. Private and express check-in and check-out are available, and early arrival or late departure can be arranged. That is useful when flights and dive plans refuse to cooperate, as they occasionally do.

Free Wi-Fi covers the hotel, and free parking is available if you hire a car. The hotel can arrange an airport shuttle on request, and car hire is available. Paphos International Airport is around 35 minutes away by car. A concierge, luggage storage, laundry, dry cleaning, ironing, a safe and currency exchange cover the practical jobs that tend to appear once the holiday has started.

The property has a lift and wheelchair-accessible facilities, including an accessible restaurant. It is non-smoking throughout, and the hotel does not accept pets. Payments include cash, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal. The hotel has one meeting room, although most divers will have other uses for their holiday hours.
